Some stories are too great for words. Alejandro Jodorowsky, the batshit insane and wholly majestic Chilean/Russian writer/director behind El Topo, The Holy Mountain and Santa Sangre, hasn’t directed a feature film since he teamed Peter O’Toole and Omar Sharif in 1990’s unreleased The Rainbow Thief.
He’s back. In addition to producing Herzog’s My Son, My Son David Lynch’s company Absurda will produce and rep Jodorowsky’s King Shot (holy shit) , a metaphysical gangster movie (holy shit!) starring Nick Nolte (HOLY SHIT!) and, um, Asia Argento, Udo Kier and Marilyn Manson.
Forget those last seven words. Jodorowsky. Metaphysical gangster movie. NICK NOLTE. This isn’t entirely new info — Jodorowsky has talked about this film before — but the difference between him discussing a film and actually being handed a mandate to make it is massive.
THR buried this lead in their Herzog/Lynch article. Forgive them. They know not what they do.
