Some very awful films have unveiled their opening scenes online in an effort to entice unsuspecting moviegoers (Darkness Falls may be the most egregious offender), but Speed Racer is no bait-and-switch job. Though I got hung up on the picture’s surprising thematic complexity in my review, it is, first and foremost, an exhilarating summer entertainment. If I were ten years old, I’d be going back for repeat IMAX viewings.
And while the opening seven minutes (embedded below) are an accurate reflection of Speed Racer‘s dizzying aesthetic, it should go without saying that it’s meant to be seen on the biggest screen possible. But if you’re looking for a sense of tone, this will tell you everything. Personally, I think you’d be crazy to pass this up in the theater, but it’s your money.
