How does X-Men Origins: Wolverine tie into the X-Men films? It may be through a cameo appearance by a young Scott Summers, aka Cyclops. A poster on the Superhero Hype! message boards has discovered an announcement on the website of an Australian theatrical agency, claiming that young Aussie actor Tim Pocock* landed the role last month.
Pocock appears to be much younger than the Cyclops we met in the X-Men movies, so I guess that means Wolverine is set about ten years before the opening of the first film. The big question, of course, is how the heck will Scott Summers meet Wolverine in the past and yet not know him when they meet again in the first X-Men? If you’re going to be using continuity, use it right; I have to assume that there’s going to be some kind of song and dance that explains this. Who knows, maybe young Scott will spend time in Weapon X but will never actually cross paths with Wolvie. This wouldn’t be something out of the comics, as far as I know, but this film looks to using the comics only as a jumping off point anyway.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine opens next summer.
*I’d change it to Blingcock if I was him.
