Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom is one of my favorite movies from last year. My girlfriend and I saw it on the day that our friends’ daughter was born and I cried often enough to make me rethink my gender.
It’s been nice to see Anderson back on his game after The Darjeeling Limited*, the only movie of his that truly doesn’t work. The literal and metaphorical dumping of fatherly baggage in that movie tainted the brand for a while, but it also served to make his subsequent successes seem that much sweeter. The Fantastic Mr. Fox probably isn’t a logical choice for his best film, but Goddamn if it doesn’t fire on absolutely every last cylinder. Beagles love blueberries, you guys.
Now we have a new short film, which Prada “presents.” Hell, who cares where the money comes from when its being funneled into original voices. Prada, Megan Ellison, the Medicis! Gimme more art!
Anyway, the short is called Castello Cavalcanti and it’s a concentrated double shot of everything you love or hate about Wes Anderson. Jason Schwartzman stars. See what I mean?
I found this on The Dissolve by way of The LA Times:
*I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen this since the theater. It may be time to reevaluate.
