This weekend Kevin Smith hosted a live, online fan event for the Man of Steel DVD/Blu-Ray. I’m not sure what that is, as I’ve neither heard of, nor seen this film. Is it anything like Paul Schrader’s Blue Collar?

I’m also unfamiliar with Kevin Smith, though his IMDB credits tell me he plays a superhero in something called Comic Book Men. Sounds cool. I really wish I had an opinion on him, but I’ve simply never heard of him or his work before. Feel free to add something in the comments if you’re a fan.

During the event, Smith was shown a picture of Golden Globe-winning director, Ben Affleck dressed in a “Bat-Man” costume, which he described on his podcast, Hollywood Babble-On (sic). Website io9 has a transcript:

I saw the costume, more than that I saw him [Ben Affleck] in the costume…I don’t want to give anything away cause that is up to them and stuff, but I am going to say this…I instantly bear hugged him. You have not seen this costume in film before. Because every other movie has done this matrixy black armor thing…There wasn’t a single nipple on this [frick]ing suit man. I think everyone is gonna be like ‘Holy Shit!’ We haven’t been down this path before. Even the Hardest core “[frick] this movie” person will be like ‘alright, I’m ready!

It seemed like it was very [Redacted] Influenced.

Sounds pretty [frick]ing cool to me! Unfortunately, the influence for the design of the suit, as you can see, has been redacted. I assumed the influence was bats, but maybe that’s wrong.

The obvious is question is this: how will this new suit affect Affleck’s directing choices? The Runner, Runner star is currently attached to direct Live By Night, which is based on a novel by Dennis Lehane and set for a Chirstmas 2015 release.
