BEETLEJUICE

There’s been talk about Beetlejuice 2 for ages. Though the careers of those involved have fluctuated wildly since the film’s premiere, it seems the necessary parties have always been at least somewhat interested in returning for a sequel. Well, mostly Michael Keaton and Tim Burton but, come on, you weren’t really expecting to see Alec Baldwin or Geena Davis return, were you?

While rumors have floated around about the sequel for years, nothing has come to be. That seems to be changing. Things are really happening with Beetlejuice 2. In fact, The Wrap says an official offer is out to Burton for him to return as director. Thankfully, Keaton is already on board with the project because if the movie didn’t have him then, well, why bother?

The script is by Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg but apparently Burton hasn’t read it yet so he’s got some work to do before he can make an informed decision. He’s also working on an Big Eyes and an adaptation of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children so don’t expect to see BJ 2 Beetlejuice 2 any time soon.

I’m a big fan of the original and a ridiculously obsessive fan of Keaton so I’m going to let myself be excited for this despite the fact that most long-awaited sequels blow and despite the fact that Burton hasn’t turned in a really strong film in ten years. Nostalgia? Blind love of an amazing, under-appreciated actor? Probably both but you can’t deny that you will get giddy if and when Keaton suits up once again.

There’s a lot that can go wrong with Beetlejuice 2 but, holy cow, there is also a lot that can go right.
