Jeff VespaWe’ve yet to see what direction Alex Kurtzman, Bob Orci, and Jeff Pinkner have taken the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, but Sony must be pleased. The studio has officially hired the trio to scribble out the third film of what was once a trilogy, but has now bee rejiggered as a four-film saga. Exactly how that will play out remains to be seen, but it generally seems that the upcoming second film along with the third film will put the pieces together for a Sinister Six blowout in the fourth. Gwen Stacey’s inevitable death and the introduction of a recast Mary Jane seem likely for the third film, but that’s mere speculation.

I suspect the Osbornes –set to appear in Amazing Spider-Man 2— may become full-blown 7002064023_28778ea8b2_znemesiseseeses in the third film, with a more flavorful villain (The Vulture, at long last?) livening things up and pushing towards the Sinister Six appearing later.

Kurtzman and Orci are most recently responsible for Star Trek Into Darkness and all the sense that movie made, with the latter getting rather heatedly defensive on the ‘net lately about said film. Even as they move this franchise ahead for Sony, the duo will continue with their work on Star Trek, sans-Abrams, while their Mummy reboot moves along.
