That’s Billy Bob Thornton above, sporting a sourpuss as the head of Dallas’ Secret Service office on November 22nd, 1963, Forrest Sorrels. Following the president’s death, Sorrels took the security failure extremely personally, and was a chief investigative figure immediately following the event.
This and the stills below are our first look at Parkland, the film that eschews conspiracy theories and plots to follow the smaller dramas that played out on the day of JFK’s assassination, with a big focus on the medical staff at the attending hospital. Zapruder, played by Paul Giamatti, also figures in heavily as his life is instantly and irrevocably changed by the film he happened to be shooting at the time. Marcia Gay Harden and Zac Efron play the head nurse and and a rookie surgeon at the hospital, respectively, while Jeremy Strong plays Lee Harvey Oswald.
The film is the first feature from writer/director Peter Landesman, and it will debut at Toronto and Venice later this year.
We’ll just have to see how it compares to the Rob Lowe-starring, Bill O’Reilly-written JFK film that will debut on National Geographic later this year as well.
