Lovelace, Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s film about Linda Lovelace and the drama surrounding the success of Deep Throat, beat Inferno through production and to the screen, and thus we have Amanda Seyfried as Lovelace rather than Malin Ackerman. Seyfried appears to have a strong handle on the role from the trailer above, which also spotlights its big, thick cast and photography drenched in deep blacks and 70s color. Cannavale, Stone, Patrick, Azaria, Franco, Sevigny, and Sarsgaard… that’s a hell of a supporting cast around what is apparently a very confident, brave central performance.
They’ve certainly got the look and the performances- now I just want to see for myself if this balances the tricky tonal issues involved, and just how ugly this allows the story to get. The reviews have been mixed such that I’ve seen, but divisive isn’t necessarily a bad thing in this case.
