The-Crow-comicIt took a few years, but The Crow remake has finally settled into an actual motion-picture development  with director F. Javier Gutierrez at the helm and actor Luke Evans in the face paint. Now Relativity Media has made a move to bring a little street cred to the production by hiring James O’Barr as a “creative consultant.” Apparently their plan is to go back to the original source material, the du jour approach for contemporary readaptquels…

“It is important for ‘Crow’ fans to understand that Relativity, Javier, Luke and the entire team are working on a new adaptation of the book itself… I believe that this movie will stand alongside Brandon and his film as a valid work of art, and I look forward to collaborating on the project.”

It’s a move that may or may not actually have an affect on the quality (or even creative fidelity) of the film in question, but this does bring the original creator of the character into the mix. This probably doesn’t mean much to the cult of fans dedicated to the films that have latched onto the property for its melodramatic, gothy teen lit characteristics, but comic fans may appreciate the gesture.

The film still has the rest of 2013 between it and shooting, but expect a slow trickle of casting notices between now and then. There will also be an appearance at Comic Con, but without any footage to reveal the splash will be minimal.
