You probably heard the troubling news that Phillip Seymour Hoffman founds himself overwhelmed by a problem with herion and checked himself in to rehab. Well great news has come in the form of a casting negotiation rumor stating Hoffman is already angling to join the packed cast of a Soviet-era crime thriller, suggesting he’s got a handle on things and will be back to work soon.
The film is Child 44, a novel adaptation that has Soviet MP working on the investigation of a child murder. His investigation is made more difficult by the political situation, with authorities refusing to acknowledge the crimes themselves, much less his investigation.
It’s not said who Hoffman might play, but if the negotiations go well he’ll be joining an ensemble that includes Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Joel Kinnaman, and Gary Oldman. I’m pretty sure I can buy a Russian accent coming out of all of those people! The film comes from director Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) which raises a red-flag, but worth keeping an eye for the cast alone…
