Man, I haven’t been this excited since I found out Vincent Gallo would be the star of a Francis Ford Coppola movie. In fact, I’m probably even more excited than I was then. Why am I so excited? Because USA Today has revealed that still to the right and some of the voice cast for Dreamworks’s upcoming 3-D computer-animated homage to sci-fi oldies Monsters vs. Aliens, and it’s absofuckinglutely stellar.

Let’s get right into the greatness. First, the president of the United States will be voiced by none other than Stephen Colbert, who “plays it on steroids,” as Dreamworks animation head Jeffrey Katzenberg says. That right there is what I like to call the shit. But wait, it gets shittier. We’ve also got Will Arnett as the “Missing Link” (he’s half fish and half ape) and Seth Rogen as a blue gelatinous blob. And I can’t forget Rainn Wilson lending his voice to the evil alien Gallaxhar. That’s about as shitty as it gets.

Also on tap are Kiefer Sutherland as General W.R. Monger, Hugh Laurie as Dr. Cockroach and Reese Witherspoon as an almost (important distinction) 50 ft. tall woman names Ginormica. I’m not so sure about Witherspoon, but Laurie and Sutherland are also very welcome additions. And that still is nice because it reveals several of the characters I just listed.

So now my excitement for this one has gone from not excited at all (I don’t usually get excited about any animated films) to I’m drooling all over myself. I hope I enjoy long-term salivation, though, because Monsters vs. Aliens ain’t hitting theaters until next March.

As a sidenote, I can’t help but point out a very strange error in USA Today’s story, courtesy of this sentence: “Monsters tickets will cost more because the process adds about $15 million to a film’s budget.” I hate to break it to you, Susan Wloszczyna, but the tickets will cost more because the movie theaters themselves have to pay for the 3-D glasses, not because it has a large budget.
