Even before Mass Effect (review) was released, we knew the downloadable content was coming. The game is perfect for the stuff- with an entire universe to explore, it’d be very easy to throw a world or two in there and keep the adventures coming. This is just a reminder- the first pack will be hitting next week, and be available for the very reasonable price of 400 Points ($5).
The “Bring Down The Sky” pack will be released on 2 AM P.S.T. on Monday.
According to the announcement on the official site the pack will include “a new uncharted world that introduces the notorious and feared alien race of the Batarians (pictured above). A Batarian extremist group has hijacked a mobile asteroid station in the Asgard system, setting it on a collision course with the nearby colony world of Terra Nova. Only Commander Shepard can save the millions of innocent civilians before the asteroid completes its deadly descent.”
I put word to Bioware to see if it was true that the content would only be accessible to people in the middle of the game, with no word back just yet. It does seem to be that case, though… you’ll have to access the mission like any other in the game. It’s a crappy way of implementing the DLC for people who’ve beaten the game and aren’t interested in going over the entire beginning (up to the point where you take control of the Normandy!) just to play the new content they downloaded.
Still, at 5 bucks this is a damn good deal for anyone who wants to experience some more of the game.
