Square Enix’s Murdered: Soul Suspect has a new trailer, and while the inevitable “hype at your own risk” warnings are in play, we have to say, there’s a lot to like. A tough-talkin’ detective, supernatural shenanigans, a guy in a hoodie…well maybe not that last one so much, but still, a game that tasks you with solving your own murder is already out there enough to ping our radar. From the official press release:
“MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT sees players take the role of Ronan O’Connor, a detective with a checkered past, whose life is brought to an untimely end by a brutal and relentless killer. Unable to move on and stuck in the limbo world of Dusk, he won’t find peace until he can bring his killer to justice from the afterlife.
Using his new-found supernatural abilities, Ronan is free to explore the town of Salem, Massachusetts, from his shadowy afterlife. Unable to communicate with the detectives on his case, Ronan must read the minds of the living, influencing their thoughts and actions. As part of his investigation, he must interrogate the ghosts of Salem’s past citizens to piece together the puzzle, while battling demonic spirits to save his soul and uncover the shocking truth about who is responsible for his death.”
Sounds to us like L.A. Noire by way of Ghost Master, but as of now gameplay details are pretty limited. Setting aside a few questionable details (the horrible pun title, the fact that the main character’s outfit is less hard-boiled gumshoe and more tough guy in a boy band), you have to give it up for Square Enix bringing something fresh to the table. Check out the trailer below, and expect more details coming out of E3.
