Remember Vigilante 8? The original Playstation game was a spinoff of Interstate ’76 and very much a ripoff of the Twisted Metal brand of car combat, but it was fun enough to become a hit and even spawn a equally great sequel. It was sad to see developer Luxoflux never top the success of its first game (they also did the boring Star Wars Demolition and both True Crime games) but maybe a return to their roots is what they needed.
And that’s what we’re getting. The founders from Luxoflux have created a new group called Isopod, and they’re working on a “reimagining” of both titles for the Xbox Live Arcade.
As you can see, the graphics got a complete overhaul, but that’s not all. The game will also support 8 player multiplayer over Xbox Live, new arenas, and all sorts of other goodies.
I have to say, I’m really excited about this. It’s the perfect kind of game for an XBLA title- an older title, revamped from the ground up, and with some much needed online play. This could be aces, and we’ll know soon, as it’s scheduled to his this Spring.
