Day Nine – Blade Runner
Lest you think this is about a man who man or may not be a Replicant hunting for Replicants in a neo-noir science fiction detective story there is this poster. Obviously Blade Runner is a movie about scantily-clad bitches with guns. The Polish have brought the world many things like household names Tadeusz Czacki and Maciej Miechowita but their finest export by far has been their movie posters, bizarre and oftentimes jaw-dropping interpretations of films from all over the world. Sometimes literal examinations of their source but sometimes absolutely batshit pieces of art that almost take on a life of their own. Over the next fifteen weekdays I’ll be sharing some of the best examples of how these creative necromancers interpret American cinema. Blade Runner is a masterpiece of modern science fiction and one of the most discussed and polarizing films of the past epoch. One thing not in question: Ridley Scott’s oft-imitated style. Another thing not in question: Women in their drawers.
This poster could not capture the heart and soul (not that it has much of either) of the film any less. Part of me doesn’t care because it’s kinda sexy. Part of me makes me want to damage Poland.
What would this movie be like?
Spring Breakers. La Femme Nikita. True Romance. C.H.O.M.P.S.
Who is the audience for this film?
Pussy enjoyers. Me.
What the fucking fuck is fucking fucking?
Sadly this isn’t surreal. Just tone deaf.
The domestic poster for Blade Runner:
Tagline vs. Tagline?
I saw Blade Runner in 1982 in theaters and have watched it dozens of times since. I’ve had the poster on my wall…
I never noticed that awful tagline.
Pussy wins.
What other movies could effectively use this poster?
Nymphomaniac. Wet Hot American Summer. Hounddog. Snatch. Enchanted.
Tomorrow: Kinda cool, but sells the movie AWFULLY.
