Keanu’s looking awfully… smooth today:
This is one among the first batch of images released for Keanu Reeve’s martial film, which he wrote, directed, and appears as the villain. And while Mr. Reeves is looking a little plastic in the shot above, the first poster isn’t bad:
The film features action choreographed by Yuen-Woo Ping –known for movies like Drunken Master, The Matrix, Kill Bill, and Kung Fu Hustle— working with Simon Yam, Iko Uwais, and Tiger Hu Chen of Ip Man, The Raid, and The Matrix stunt team respectively. The film will hit sometime this year.
This is also the film for which Reeves has unleashed a pretty major new camera system, which has a gyroscope-mounted camera rigged onto an extremely sophisticated robotic arm system used for things like the Harry Potter ride at Universal Studios. I’m excited to see what Reeves and his team came up with to exploit the freedom of such a system, though I’m crossing my fingers the tech didn’t overshadow attention towards crafting a decent kung-fu movie.
