One of the absolute best documentaries of the last few years is certainly Senna, which sparked an interest in racing films and the possibility of a narrative feature of that story. Rush is not about the famous Senna, but instead looks at a great rivalry between two drives in the mid-70s before Senna ever hit an open-wheel track. The period film features Chris Hemsworth letting his golden locks and native accent fly, while Daniel Brühl plays his on-track nemesis. The film is from Ron Howard, working again with Peter Morgan (Last King Of Scotland, Frost/Nixon) before the writer pairs with Tom Hooper for their Freddy Mercury biopic.
It looks like an exciting film- Formula 1 is a no-joke harrowing sport, so this is sure to be a nail-biter. This one snuck in under my radar frankly, but it doesn’t hit until September 17th, so we’ll be hearing more about it.
