Couple orders of business on the Kaiju front today, folks. First things first, with this new still from Legendary released with the caption “This is as close as you ever want to get to Kaiju blood”:

Legendary is resurrecting Kaiju on two fronts, however. In addition to producing Guillermo del Toro’s new Rim job the company’s also behind Gareth Edward’s Godzilla reboot. Speaking of which, shooting commenced in Vancouver today.

Exciting news for anyone who’s been eyeing pre-production with a modicum of anticipation. Both of the above-mentioned films boast interesting casts, but Godzilla’s seems to be the more seasoned of the two: with Aaron Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen sharing the screen with Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. With Legendary as forthcoming as they’ve been with Pacific Rim’s rollout, can we expect some Zilla-goodness in our immediate future?

Something tells me Edward and Co. are likely to be more guarded than Del Toro’s production. If only because seeing the re-visioned Gojira is such a coveted money shot that I suspect the studio will want it revealed in short bursts as opposed to giving it all away at once. Pacific Rim will be out this summer, opening on July 12th. Godzilla follows it a full 10 months later, releasing on May 16th of 2014.
