After seeing I Am Legend I’m not sure I want Will Smith to be hunting anything but the monsters in Jada Pinkett’s past. But that’s not stopping him from guiding a flick called Monster Hunter for Sony. Starring Hitch co-criminal Kevin James, the flick is about a child psychologist able to see the monsters that plague kids at bedtime and puberty, which leads him on a side career as…drumroll…a monster hunter.
James is a Monster House vet, and the other big names have also been part of recent monster movies. Script is by Monsters, Inc. scribes Robert Baird and Daniel Gerson; directing is David Dobkin, who made the monstrous Fred Claus in addition to Wedding Crashers. Combined with Kevin James as the topline, that points to a kids’ comedy, hopefully with a dark tone to match the decent Monster House.
