Ang Lee looks to have chosen his first post-Life of Pi project; and it’s not necessarily what you would’ve expected. The Academy Award-winning director has signed on to direct the pilot for Tyrant, a new FX series slated to begin production this summer. This marks Lee’s television directorial debut, made all the more noteworthy thanks to the involvement of Homeland producers Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff. FX isn’t revealing much about plot aside from the following:
Tyrant tells the story of an unassuming American family drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation. The series was created by Raff and developed by Gordon and Wright. Raff wrote the pilot script, which comes from Teakwood Lane, the shingle Gordon has set up at 20th Century Fox Television. Tyrant is produced by Fox 21 and FX Productions.
I wouldn’t expect Tyrant any sooner than Spring 2014 at this point; but with The Americans and Justified still delivering great content on the network, this is a project I’ll be keeping an eye on.
