Kevin Feige went on-record with About.com to discuss all manner of Iron Man 3 business. It’s actually a really long interview with Feige going in-depth on a variety of topics relating to the film, so I suggest checking it out if that’s the sort of thing that interests you. Notably, Feige is asked about the rumor that RESCUE appears in the film. Fans of the comic will know RESCUE as the armored alter-ego of one Ms. Pepper Potts, played in the films by Gwyneth Paltrow. That last trailer certainly suggested a beefed-up action presence for Paltrow in this entry. To that effect, Feige revealed the following:
“In the comic books she does get a taste for the suit and becomes her own hero named Rescue, who doesn’t necessarily battle other people, but is on missions to help people and to save people. Will we do that down the line with Gwyneth Paltrow? Who knows. But her being in the suit is something we have been playing with since Iron Man 2, where we did some designs and it didn’t end up fitting in that movie. But the little taste you saw here [in an Iron Man 3 clip] is something that we’re certainly interested in.”
Of course Potts is getting a suit. I expect Shane Black to be like Oprah on the set of this movie, dolling out suits to everybody: “You’re getting a suit! And you’re getting a suit! And YOU’RE getting a suit!” So expect Pepper and Happy and the rest of the gang to suit up here. Could this lead to Paltrow starring in her very own RESCUE movie, saving innocents and conquering evil with non-lethal force? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. But bank on some armored extravagance nonetheless.
