Last night I was hobnobbing with the elite of the horror movie news scene at the premiere party for P2 (I didn’t go to the movie, I just ate their food and drank their rum. And watched Wes Bentley and Rachel Nichols totally take off together), and someone told me that Billboard had announced that Rob Zombie was remaking C.H.U.D.. Someone else scoffed at the rumor – I won’t say who, so as not to hurt this person’s horror news rep! – and I let it go.
Now Johnny Butane at DreadCentral has confirmed that yes, Rob Zombie is remaking C.H.U.D..
I know that Zombie has read my review of Halloween, the one I scored as ‘Fuck You Out of 10.’ I have heard that he’s made his peace with the review (having your movie make a bunch of money can do that for you), but this news makes me wonder if I didn’t hurt him more than I intended. I mean, why the fuck else would someone with a legitimate film career want to remake C.H.U.D. except to strike back at us where we (don’t) live? Maybe all the C.H.U.D.s will be named Devin, instead of Bud.
Once upon a time Zombie was anti-remake, and now here’s his second one. I don’t much like that turn of events, honestly. At any rate, Rob, if you’re reading this, let’s get past the bump in our relationship that is Halloween. I’d love to do a cameo appearance in C.H.U.D., being eaten alive by a sewer chewer. Have your people call my people.
