Spins a Web Any Size!SPIDERMAN 3
d. Sam Raimi
c. Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Thomas Hayden Church, Topher Grace

Spiderman 3 came out and received an overall negative review from most people. While it was not the best movie you could have went to see at that time, I think a lot of its bad ratings came due to the excellence that the second movie in the series achieved. I was more impressed with Spiderman 3 than most, however, because overall I enjoyed the movie. I felt that Sandman was a very good character had, while he needed more screen time, had a great character arc. I did feel that Venom was something that did not need to be in this movie, though. I do applaud the casting of Topher Grace, since I felt that the movie needed someone like Tobey Maguire to show the fight of good versus evil that Peter Parker faced in himself in comparison to someone similar to him. A large man, like the comics portray would not really have worked with the story Raimi was working with. It was pretty evident that Raimi did not care about the Venom character, and maybe just Sandman would have made the movie a bit tighter and better paced. The evil Peter Parker scenes were spectacular though, and the singing and dancing was just awe-inspiring. I liked the movie, although it was very far below the levels the second movie set up for itself. You can get this in a single disc or a two-disc special edition.

I now prounounce you ... oh wait, wrong movie ...License to Wed (Widescreen and Full-Screen)
d. Ken Kwapis
c. Robin Williams, Mandy Moore, John Krasinski

One of the few things I liked about a movie I reviewed last month called A New Wave was the acting of John Krasinski. I really felt that with a better story, surrounded by better actors, he could become a star. Well, in this movie he gets one of the criteria I mentioned. With Robin Williams, who, despite his bad taste in movies, is a pretty damn good actor, Krasinski has someone he can work with and maybe learn something from. Mandy Moore is a pretty solid actress too when given the right project (see Saved). This movie did not get good reviews and may not be the right story I hoped Krasinski would find, but if he can help improve a movie like A New Wave, I really would not mind seeing what he can do when acting alongside decent actors. It might be worth the rent to watch his performance. The DVD looks like crap though, considering the lack of any decent extras.

Pressure, you've got a hold on me, you've got ...Captivity
d. Roland Joffe
c. Elisha Cuthbert

Roland Joffe (SUPER MARIO BROTHERS!!!!!) tries his hand at Saw. Well, at least he tries to mimic it from what the trailers make it look like. Actually, I have no idea what the movie is actually about. The only thing I know is that the movie posters caused a lot of controversy, as they showed Elisha Cuthbert in various degrees of duress, or death, or something. IMDb says this about the movie: “A man and a woman awaken to find themselves captured in a cellar. As their kidnapper drives them psychologically mad, the truth about their horrific abduction is revealed.” I have a question that maybe someone can answer for me: How can a Rated R movie have an actress nominated for Best Actress in the TEEN’S CHOICE AWARDS? Shouldn’t the actress be in a movie that the majority of teens are allowed to see without adult supervision? Maybe I just don’t understand the criteria. Maybe I just don’t care. You get to pick between Rated and Unrated editions, and each has a different ending. Collect them all!
