Coming Soon has gotten their hands on a list of films that the studios are making their pre-strike priorities. These are the movies they want in the can before the actors and directors potentially strike at the end of June 2008; I’m not sure if this list is reflecting current thoughts that the writers will go on strike at the end of the month. Some of the films on the list definitely have scripts, while other I’m not so sure about.
It’s interesting seeing some of the dates being shifted; White Jazz writer Matthew Carnahan told me they were planning to shoot in December, but the Coming Soon list has White Jazz in January. Is this making room for Clooney to re-edit or do re-shoots on Leatherheads? Or is to give Chris Pine the opportunity to go play Captain Kirk in Star Trek XI before coming to play Clooney’s partner in the Ellroy adaptation?
Looking at the list you can already see the films that are strike-panic disasters in the making: The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, Creature From the Black Lagoon (is it only getting out of Development Hell because of the strike?), 1000 Words. There are other films in that list that make me happy, like seeing Paul Greengrass’ adaptation of Imperial Life in the Emerald City (is it now just called Green Zone?) getting itself made… but where’s Soderbergh’s The Informer? Matt Damon told me that sucker was going in April. Could the Che Guevara duology have knocked that one out of its slot?
Head to Coming Soon to see the titles of the movies you’ll be watching in 2009 and 2010.
