With the recent news that Kevin Smith was going to turn his final film, Hit Somebody into one film, rather than the 2 film epic he had originally envisioned, comes 2 bits of news.
The first being that he changed his mind about the one film deal, and instead has sold it to an unmentioned cable company (word being that it’s AMC due to his deal with them for Comic Book Men, and that makes a whole lot of sense too).
The second being that he tweeted earlier today, that now that Hit Somebody is no longer going to be a “film”, but a tv miniseries instead, that his final film slot has opened up, and that as soon as Jeff Anderson signs on, he’s gearing up for Clerks III.
Clerks III. I’m one of those people who greatly enjoyed Clerks II as a hilarious return to form, despite that stupid musical number, the whole rest of the film is in my opinion full of side splitting humor, and full of stuff that Smith had referenced on the documentary on the Clerks X dvd set. Such as the “Buffalo Bill Dance”. Hell, even on the Clerks II commentary, they talk about the original jobs for Randal and Dante being working at the Boardwalk, and Randal being the guy who gets shot by paintballs, and all the paint would be in the crotch area. something that was used instead in Zack And Miri Make A Porno. The film really catered to my sense of humor, which is sophomoric to say the least.
I can’t wait to see the further adventures of Dante and Randal as the now owners of the Quick Stop and RST Video stores, along with Dante being a Father. If this will truly be the final film for Smith, it really does seem like the logical conclusion. A third film to finish off a trilogy of films started with his first film. I also hope that he full on goes for the full effect and films it entirely in black and white and not just bookends like in the second film.
I’ve still got enough faith in the guy. Red State was one of my favorite films of last year. He just really needs to stop putting his foot in his mouth every time he speaks/tweets.
