In Stephenie Meyer’s 2008 novel The Host, a parasitic alien takes over a human girl’s body on a post-invasion Earth. The girl, named Melanie, uses her consciousness to fend off the alien by bombarding it with human feelings. This leads the alien, still in control of Melanie’s body, to develop attachments to the people important to Melanie. And as this poster for the adaptation starring Saoirse Ronan indicates, it’s not a Stephenie Meyer joint unless some hunks are involved. Because if Twilight taught us anything, it’s that shit doesn’t get done unless the hunks are there to see it through.
The Host is directed by Andrew Niccol whose post-Gattaca output has left a lot to be desired. He’s perfect for this:
