When people hear the name David Gordon Green they’re likely to recall the director’s work in comedies like Pineapple Express, Your Highness and The Sitter. But before he made his mainstream debut with Express, Green had a career directing dramatic indie fare with films like 2003’s All the Real Girls with Zooey Deschanel. So it’s a little hard to figure out what to make of Deadline’s report that the director is moving on a deal to bring Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House on the Prairie to the big screen.
Supposedly the script is being tended to by Abi Morgan, known for writing dramas Shame and The Iron Lady. So it’s easy to draw the conclusion that Green’s making a return to heavier territory. The semi-autobiographical book series recounted Wilder’s childhood growing up in the Midwest. In a little house. That was on a prairie. You might remember catching the TV series in syndication that starred Melissa Gilbert in the Wilder role and OG teen wolf Michael Landon as her Pa. I just remember it being really god damned boring. Needed more dysentery.
