Prisoners is a Black List project that has seen its fair share of directors and stars* flirt with it over the past few years. Back in the spring it was announced that Denis Villeneuve (Incendies) would helm with Hugh Jackman as one of the leads. Now word comes down that he will be joined by Melissa Leo.
The plot follows a man (Jackman) whose daughter and best friend are kidnapped. When police efforts to locate them prove ineffective, the man turns to vigilantism and ultimately clashes with the lead detective on the case. There’s no word yet on what role Leo is slated for. The detective was apparently initially written as a man, but that could easily have changed by now. Perhaps Leo is Jackman’s law enforcement foil? Regardless, we’re getting a vengeful Jackman hunting down the captor of his loved ones, which already sounds like a winner to me.
Shooting on the Warner Bros. film will commence after Jackman finishes up work on The Wolverine. Prisoners is currently targeting a November 2013 release. Let’s just hope the production doesn’t have any more major hiccups between now and then.
