The church of England has its voluminous panties in a bunch! Okay, that’s not news. The twist is that said panties are knotted over a videogame, specifically the portrayal of Manchester Cathedral in the PS3 game Resistance: Fall of Man. Apparently, Sony didn’t request permission to use the cathedral’s likeness. I love Sony’s ever-so-slightly condescending response to the Church’s threat of lawsuit: "Resistance: Fall of Man is a fantasy science fiction game and is not based on reality. The game is set in an alternate and mythical version of Europe in the 1950s, in which the enemy are strange looking alien invaders seeking to destroy humanity. Whilst we believe that we have sought and received all permissions necessary for the creation of the game, we will be contacting the Cathedral authorities in order to better understand their concerns in more detail." Emphasis mine. Chuckles also mine.
For those poor souls out there who were raised on 80s music, and feel some perverse attraction to the stuff, there have been more tracks announced for Guitar Hero Encore: 80s Edition. The newly revealed songs include some more Iron Maiden, an Anthrax tune, and some Scorpions, among others. I was meant to be born into a generation for whom the 80s were only a myth, a cautionary tale.
I’d be mighty pleased if this were actually sponsored by Nintendo, but Slashdot is publicizing a homebrew contest for coders eager to try their hands at custom coding for Nintendo’s Wii and Gamecube consoles. Cash prizes are going to be awarded to those garage coders who come up with the most impressive exploits of the hardware.
This Wednesday, Prince of Persia Classic will appear on the Xbox Live Arcade. The game copies the original’s side-scrolling puzzles and levels, but includes a graphical makeover to make it appear more in line with Ubisoft’s recent series revival. In other words, bloom. It seems as though a lot of work went into this retooling, but that won’t reflect in the game’s price, which will be the reasonable (?) standard 800 MS points.
