Thanks for your thoughts on Horsemen, Hans.

And to think I almost thought about giving it a try last month when it opnened here in Asia (Zhang Ziyi is still a big deal here). But after seeing all that Seven type crap in the trailer. all my instincts just said "Nah". I couldn't go through with it.

Nice to see I was right. Could you spoil me the ending? Just curious.

Edit- A SAW VI set visit here.

Other Mickey Rourke casting news. I like the idea of Larry Clark and Rourke working together but Mona Lisa is such a great film, for Clark to think that he could improve on it in some way is ballsy, maybe he'll take the story in another direction?

I've always been on the fence with remakes, i don't see the point in bitching about them but then i see some of the talent involved and just wish they were working on something more original.

Also he might have this dark Western on the horizon. I thought Paxton delivered a very nifty film with Frailty, i haven't seen his sophomore effort The Greatest game ever played.

Yes the ending is stupid and retarded. I almost fell asleep a couple times but I'm pretty sure that asian woman was the killer and using psychic powers or something she was making people kill. In the end she controls Quaid's angry teen son and he makes some stupid speech (about the evil modern world) that's supposed to make the movie sound important.

Oh dear HORSEMEN sounds like HORSESHIT.

I'm excited about the prospect of Rourke in a Western directed by Paxton but two things:

A) Not sure about that title
B) "Moviehole" are waaay off with their FRAILTY date, that movie did not come out in 1998!

That sounds like bullshit all right. So does the kid and Quaid die?

Wow, looks like SAW VI is just around the corner. We can pretty much mark the passing of each year with these things. What do you think of the franchise, Hans?

I think the kid lives. He was suspended by hooks and Quaid got him down.

I personally don't care about the Saw movies. I know I... SAW... the first three on dvd, but hardly remember anything about them, so they must have been great.

Yawn another year another SAW. Ooh what grisly traps will there be this time?

Another horror franchise that should be taken out back and shot is THE GRUDGE. I saw an ad on a site for the 3rd one and it's just still the same white kid bullshit.

Hey guys...

I'm about to watch the 174-Minute EXTENDED CUT of The Da Vinci Code.

Why? Simply because I can.

I can't wait to see EVEN MORE exciting sequences of people sitting around talking about bullshit.

I would also like to remind everyone that this inert film was one of the Summer Blockbusters from 2006. It kicked off that season in May to a rousing start and really set the tone for the thrills that would soon follow...

It was the summer of a remake of that great film we couldn't wait to see again, THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE!

And then, a couple of months later, we got an action-packed Superman film that consisted of him flying around holding on to BIG THINGS and stalking his ex-girlfriend while moping, listening to Sunny Day Real Estate on his iPod and wondering if people still loved him after he'd been gone for 5 years.

And he found time to re-create a comic book cover from 1938 with the hopes that this would make the masses stand up and cheer.

It didn't.

2006 was an exciting Summer with these fantastic, very hyped films.

You're a stronger man than I Erix, I caught some of that flick on TV the other day... There was something, and something else, and a lot of talking.

Yeah I didn't really care, and the same goes for the sequel unless I hear some reviews raving about Action Man Tom Hanks.

OMG, I never realized until I started participating in that Toughest Action Hero tournament that after you vote, you get to see the results AND the most recent comments that insult the opponent. I mean, for STALLONE people say such things about Vin as:

Vin Diesel is a stinky turd.
Ae u serious vin diesal sucks its rambo vs the friggen pacifire for gods sake

For BRUCE, people prefer him to Will Smith because he’s bald! For JACKIE, someone said that he’d make Keanu cry and run to his mommy. CONNERY won because “Sean ish a winner who f**ksh the prom queen.”

Oh, the Internet.

By the way, I just saw that there's going to be a movie based on... American Gladiators? Yes.

Is that version getting an official release? Let us know if it plays better. (I've never seen the movie, but the long rumoured extended cut was supposed to promise more 'action'--not like that would be too hard a challenge!)

Yeah, summer '06 sucked.

I liked the Pirates sequel, and Vice has grown on me, but everything else was pretty blah. Emo Superman pretty unforgivable.

How did they make something like Poseidon-which screamed for a lot of camp--so utterly boring. What a tragic waste of Kurt!

Didn't we all die a little inside seeing the Rock in Gridiron Gang??

Though, come to think of it--late August CRANK almost saves the season.

Tack: "Shit makes me hork."

Watching Mirrors right now. It's a pretty meh film so far. It hasn't wowed me, and I was expecting more from Aja based on his 2 previous films. It's got some pretty good sight gags, but that's about it. The awesome Jason Flemyng is pretty wasted. He only has about 2 scenes. The ending sequence with the mirrors blowing up is pretty cool though.

Count me in on seeing Saw VI. I'm more curious this time around to see if they're actually wrapping everything up as has been reported, or they're just going to set it up for another one.

That's wicked. I was offline for most of the day so to come home and see that pic was a delight.

Any other interesting pics hit the web today?

I just took back Big Stan and Mirrors to the Redbox, and they had The Grudge 3, so I rented it. I haven't seen the second one, but from what I understand the only connection to that one is the little boy. I'll give my take on it later.

I picked up the 2-disc TAKEN which I'll check out soon. Also snagged Best of Star Trek: The Original Series and Best of Star Trek The Next Generation. I have no desire to buy entire seasons of those shows so these 4 episode selections are ideal, and only $10 a pop! The TNG one has the two-parter where Picard becomes a Borg which I haven't seen in years.

My friend has actually challenged me to buy all of the TNG sets and watch the episodes. Summers coming up, so I may at least start with the first season.

I came really close to buying the Blu-Ray of Taken today, but I figured I'd wait for the weekend to come around after all. I can spend the weekend seeing Bryan Mills kicking ass again.

Took the girlfriend to eat a burger after work, and I just blurted out "Now is not the time for dick measuring Stuart!" she laughed. That's such a funny line. Then we talked about Stuart and his "resources".

I'm going to watch Woody Harrelson and Sir Ben Kingsley in Transiberian after the game. Looks like a cool thriller.

Just saw a commercial for Raimi's Drag Me To Hell. Hope he brings the Horror goods.

Do y'all still apreciate the Evil Deads? Assume Army of Darkness is a big one for this thread!

I got the unrated and UNCENSORED version of Taken in the mail from netflix today. And the selection on that best of disc looks pretty good. I'd probably trade AMOK TIME for MIRROR, MIRROR, but you can't go wrong with this moment:

Drag Me To Hell looks to be a great return to horror for Raimi.

All three Evil Dead flicks are great. Army Of Darkness works well because it's a good mix of sword and sorcery as well as well placed comedy.

The first one is balls out (sometimes) disturbing horror, while the second one solidly mixes comedy and horror. The commentary is also a hoot. I can no longer see the scene of Jake with the knife in him, then Annie tries to pull it out and he screams with a straight face. The commentary during that scene now makes me laugh. As well as the sound he makes when he gets stabbed.

I'm proud to report that Taken holds up and is just as wild and exciting the second time. I never saw it in the theaters, but I did watch the european/r-rated/extended/unrated/whatever version on youtube. Even on youtube its thrills shot out at lightspeed. I didn't notice the girl's fake dad was Xander Berkeley. Bravo! I always laugh at the scene where Mills gives his honest, working man's gift of a karaoke machine, and then out comes Xander with a HORSE! My other favorite scene is where Mills is on the plane to a paris RENDEZVOUZ, and he keeps on playing the recording of "GOOD LUCK!"

Famke Janssen plays an almighty queen bitch! I'm so glad they are working on Taken 2 (the script at least), according to that article on here a while ago. Seeing Leland Orser and the rest of Mills' old buddies from THE COMPANY renews my interest in seeing them team up with Mills for the RENDEZVOUZ.

I might get that Best of Star Trek dvd. I already have all of The Next Generation, Enterprise, and Voyager on dvd and this new 4 episode set will make a pathetic neighbor on my shelf.

Neeson tricking him into saying "Good Luck" and the subsequent scene should be deemed action classics. Bryan Mills is the next great action icon. Neeson should do at least 2 more to make it a trilogy.

Far as I can tell, it's a pirate copy of an original American DVD. So I would say it did get an official release somewhere down the line.

It plays exactly the same, by the way.

"More action..."

Well... Let's see.

I think the scene where Audrey Tautou drives her car backwards through a Parisian street and between two trucks, while Tom Hanks says: "We're not gonna make it!" has a couple of extra shots. That's about a minute and a half, give or take.

I think the minute-long scene where they run from the church to evade the bad guy who is shooting at them is about 3 seconds longer... I think it includes a longer shot of them running through a small crowd on a sidewalk.

There is a flashback scene inserted where Paul Bettany escapes from a prison during an earthquake. I believe it lasts about a minute and a half also. It consists of him crawling through a hole that shows up in his cell and a cinder block falling on his head... Or something.

The action sequence where they cold-cock Jurgen Prochnow with a car door is exactly the same. Say 30 seconds or so.

Ditto the thrilling 21-second shootout where the bad guys are defeated by the London police (a full hour before the movie is finished) is also exactly the same.

And the scene where Jean Reno kicks the shit out of an air traffic controller (10 seconds. Tops.) is also the same.

The opening scene of an old fart running down a museum hallway and ultimately getting shot in the stomach by Paul Bettany is also the same.

...That's pretty much all the action in this 174 minute film. This film was released in May during the Summer season of 2006. I like to repeat that every now and again. I said it a few posts ago. But I wanted to cement in stone that this was a Summer Movie.

Luc Besson had better... he gave us 3 TRANSPORTER(S) with Jason "Got Swag" Statham and yet, it couldn't deliver like TAKEN.

BTW: I GOT MY BLU-RAY COPY OF TAKEN

It kicks ASS! Extras are decent enough. Jason Bourne has a new competitor in the form of Bryan Mills. Exciting!

It's made even better by Neeson being in his 50's and just now being an action icon. He should milk this for all he can. He's like the next Bronson.

Hate it or love it...

The death of his wife will help him land gigs and he will have an emotional edge that will translate so well for future TAKEN installments.

Just finished up The Grudge 3. By the numbers plot. I was lured in with the promise of some secret that could stop The Grudge. Yeah, it doesn't get stopped. It was barely worth the dollar I spent on it. If you gents are still interested (or were interested in the first place) with Asian Ghost Horror, then check it out for the dollar. Otherwise skip it. Mirrors was better when watching at the end with Keifer fighting the flaming demon woman and defeating her. The Twilight Zone ending brought it down a notch, but it was still way above The Grudge 3.

Saw some previews on the disc. One was for The Messengers 2: The Scarecrow. It stars Norman Reedus and Richard Riehle! That one actually looks good, and I never saw the first one either.

Terry Crews is a super nice guy. He even laughed when I jabbed at his teams. Sorry, all I got for yall today. Fucking tired.

Glad to hear Crews is a swell guy.

Looks like that rumored Van Damme movie WEAPON is back on, but now he's set to star alongside Vinnie Jones:

CANNES -- Action stars Jean Claude Van Damme and Vinnie Jones will play rival assassins who form an uneasy alliance in "Weapon," which Russell Mulcahy will direct for new production company Flagship Films.

Founded by producers Alison Semenza and Todd Moyer, Flagship is aiming to begin production on the film in August in and around Vancouver, Calif. Flagship's goal is to produce five films per year, with as many as three to be filmed in 2009.

Jere Hasfater and John Fremes' Essential Entertainment is handling international sales in Cannes. Domestic rights will be represented jointly by ICM and Gersh.

In the movie, Jones will play a master sharpshooter while Van Damme's character is skilled with a knife. The two join forces to take down the head of a drug cartel, backed by the DEA.

Mulcahy, whose credits include the first two "Highlander" movies, recently completed "Give 'Em Hell, Malone."
Van Damme and Jones under Mulcahy's steady watch could be magical.

So I suppose Van Damme has 4 films in the pipeline so far.

Universal Soldier 3, The Eagles Path, KARATE and Weapon.

The Dolph lineup would be

Command Performance, Universal Soldier 3, Icarus and The Expendables.

Am I missing anything else?

I watched the 4 original Japanese movies and the 1st American one almost back to back and didn't really get anything out of them. What a bore and the story didn't really go anywhere after the first one. I won't be lured anywhere near the American sequels. Mirrors was retarded but watching it at a genre festival was a blast. Ghosts with Jack Bauer sums it up good. But they should have stopped with the Asian horror remakes and sequels a long time ago. Ghosts and creepy kids got stale quick and it's not like they do much business anymore.

That sounds about right. DIRECT CONTACT won't be out in America for a few more weeks so you might throw that on Dolph's pile.

Plus, stuff like KARATE or even WEAPON could fall through for Van Damme as can easily happen with these projects. But I hope WEAPON happens for sure, especially now that Mulcahy appears to be on board.

Fine by me:

I'll take Vinnie Jones OVER Steven Seagal (sorry Erix). Indeed, this can be magical under the guidance of Mulcahy.

Mirrors sounds interesting. 24 on a supernatural bent.

Do we get Jack saying "Dammit Paula, I need you on this!" or see him do his "Don't fight it" Sleeper hold on a Demon?

Breakdown
was a lot better than I'd expected, but T3 is still a letdown. They just screwed it all up by even allowing Judgment Day to happen. "No fate but what we make", remember? Fucked it up. Then making Arnie the butt of a bunch of lame, outdated jokes... just terrible. Still, the ending (despite its continuity problems with the previous two films) had balls and the crane chase sequence was fucking excellence.

Star Trek
? Well, it was stupid, but it was fun as well.

Is that the NEAR DARK we're talking about? 'Cos that was a more than decent modern vampire movie! I still haven't seen Seagals vampire epic, but people I trust tell me it's pure dookie. So I'm kinda putting it off; maybe I'll catch it on TV some day...
Love that flick. It's kinda like an anti-Twilight nowadays. Same with Lost Boys, which destroyed Near Dark at the box office.

Drag Me To Hell
looks like a bad rip-off of Thinner. How much do you all want to bet she gives the curse away to either her boss or her office competition by the end?

Absolutely badass. I would love those on my wall.

Even though Li's expression is less than awesome. Is he wearing a ballcap?

The Li one is so-so, but the Sly and Statham ones are sweet. Good start for the "official" art (not counting that one poster with just their names).

RE: THE EXPENDABLES TEASER POSTERS

LOL! Li looks like a tourist; not a hardcore mercenary. Statham is decent enough. As for Sly; they should have used the one from yesterday:

You know what's great about that scene?

That he's impersonating a French police officer despite not speaking French or having a French accent... And yet, the Albanians don't seem to care.

Or maybe they're just stupid.

That Jet Li Poster looks very similar to that Policeman disguise Jet wore in ROMEO MUST DIE.

P.S- Jox, would it be okay if I copied those pictures and posted them on the Official Expendables Thread? It's certainly worth it.
