One of the reasons--aside from the Lovecraft *ahem* love--that story struck me is because I have a tendency to square off objects tossed on a table so that the angles of the object and table are aligned. Alternatively, I'll create a 45 degree angle with the edges of the table. It's just one of those weird personality quirks.

Just finished Dan Simmons' Hyperion Saga ( Hyperion, Fall of Hyperion, Endymion, Rise of Endymion.) As a whole, quite the satisfying tale. On Goodreads.com, I've read how some people were not satisfied with Endymion and skipped out on Rise, but he really ties together all of the books with the final story.
A cleansing of the literary palate is in order as I have started The Greatest Sci-Fi Movies Never Made by David Hughes. After that, I tackle The Martian Tales Trilogy.

Currently reading my copy of Naked Lunch that I started several years ago and never finished. It's as bizarre as I had expected it to be. Maybe even more so. I like it.

Finishing up Ruled Britannia by Harry Turtledove. Ordinarily, I'm not a fan of his... but this one made me rethink that a bit.

I just finished all of Chelse Cain's female serial killer series. They really aren't that bad of a series of books. Mostly because I"m bored of the typical mystery at this point.

Just got done re-reading Chuck Yeager's autobiography (which is still funny, moving and inspiring) for the fifth time, along with a collection of Soderbergh interviews (which were overall, unsurprisingly, pretty dry).
Right now I'm simultaneously reading Guns, Germs and Steel and Hot, Flat and Crowded. I've read Thomas Friedman's articles before but it's the first book I've read and I have to say so far I feel like he's better in small doses.

My girlfriend bought me an early birthday gift...a really great book called "Music Listography: Your Life in Playlists". The book is filled with blank "playlists" that you fill out, each of them has their own topic.

Giving up on Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun. I'm about 150 pages into the first book, The Shadow of the Torturer, and I still don't feel like I'm anywhere near an actual plot. So I'm putting it down for now, and will give it another shot some other time down the line. Gonna start up the illustrated A Brief History of Time instead.

Under the Banner of Heaven, finally. It is the best thing I've read in a long ass time, as advertised. I really like that Krakauer never takes a single cheap shot at Mormons, but just lets the facts accumulate into a (thus far) unspoken thesis statement.

I have to do alot of house cleaning, and I put it off till just this moment. I'm going to listen to the audiobook of "A 'MOST WANTED' MAN" by John Le Carre, read by Rodger Rees (whom I've met on several occasions). Has anyone read this one? Is it any good?

Ah ok cool, well I'd known he was primarly a writer of Cold War spy fiction, and this is a post 9/11 book. Wasn't sure what to expect

So, I finished up "20th Century Ghosts" and remain pleased as punch. Hill is a serious talent. Unfortunately, he doesn't appear to be nearly as prolific as his old man. This means that, with "Heart Shaped Box" and "Ghosts" down, I only have the "Locke & Key" graphic novel left to go.
Presently, I've moved on to "I Hear You Paint Houses: Frank "The Irishman" Sheehan and the Inside Story of the Mafia, the Teamsters, and the Last Ride of Jimmy Hoffa" by Charles Brandt. It's non-fiction. Completely and utterly addicting for anyone with a modicum of interest in This Thing Of Ours. I'll just assume the title explains what it's about.

Picked up The Lovely Bones, figuring I'll never read it once I see the movie, and the first chunk of pages is riveting.

Right now I'm bouncing between A Brief History of Time and Chelsea Horror Hotel by Dee Dee Ramone. I'm about 50 pages in to the latter, and so far it's an entertaining, breezy read.
