Metric is a great local band, and Fantasies is on my playlist since early this year. Glad to see some people in the US getting to know them!

'Help I'm Alive' has been getting a lot of attention here since the beginning of the year. Then I heard 'Gimme Sympathy' and it got me to check out the rest of the tracks on the album. Definitely in my top 10 of the year.

Same here. And great performers live. Give it a shot if there come around your area. Saw them 3 weeks ago here, and they torched the place. Easily my favorite local band since Arcade Fire and The Tea Party.

Because I like each and every one of you I cannot recommend highly enough you all get your hands on a copy of the debut album from London folk four piece MUMFORD AND SONS:

The Beatles Live At The BBC
"Do you ever get tired of being Beatles?" "Yaaaaaaawwn" Also: McCartney I, Plastic Ono Band, Ram, & Imagine Ram is such a weird little Macca record-there's seething anger just below the surface good cheer. Fun to spot the Lennon references. "Monkberry Moon Delight" is an off the wall treat! |

This one is more than a little embarrassing:
Beaucoups of Blues Ringo Starr It's his 1970 country album. Thanks to assistance from top notch Nashville players, transcends (well, almost) novelty, becoming effective moody little record; nothing reaches "Act Naturally" or obviously Nashville Skyline, but title track, "Love Don't Last Long", "Without Her", "Fastest Growing Heartache In The West" etc. have had me humming all afternoon. I kind of love it. |

Can I go a bit old school in this thread?? I've always been one of those "late-to-the-party" types, and have just now been checking out some Blue Oyster Cult - I know...that's VERY late. Anyway, their album Secret Treaties has been on heavy rotation recently ever sense I picked it up used recently. Great album!

I dunno, Judas strikes me as more of a Night Ranger type of dude.
Current album owning me: The Twilight Sad - Forget The Night Ahead First track, Reflection of the Television, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OMe2jpiCn8 The youtube audio rip doesn't do much justice to the CD track (obviously), because when this thing kicks in it's as attention-grabbing as having your balls threatened with a sledgehammer. Good stuff.

Neil Young-On The Beach. Such a terrifically moody album that contains some of Young's most inspiring guitar playing and songwriting. 'Revolution Blues' has a fantastic funky solo from Young and the song pretty much rocks. I think my favorite would have to be 'On the Beach', it's a totally haunting spare song from Mr. Young with another great guitar solo, his voice just moans with anguish.
Motion Pictures and Ambulance Blues are both some of Young's best songs, stripped back acoustic numbers.

The Allman Brothers Band Live at the Atlanta International Pop Festival: July 3 & 5, 1970
I'm starting to prefer it to Filmore East. I think disc 2 "Don't Keep Me Wonderin'" is my favorite track. Disc 1 "Statesboro Blues" up there tho. The band introduction is totally hilarious! **** Bruce Springsteen Hammersmith Odeon London '75 The whole first side, even "Spirit of the Night". Last edited by Fat Elvis; 11-19-2009 at 01:21 AM. |

I've read that's really rare, Neil Young refuses to release it or something.
ABB at the Atlanta Pop Festival is pretty damn good. I think it contains their best recorded version of 'Mountain Jam', Duane's solo is astonishing. "Everybody on your feet, get on your feet, mornin' wake up'.

Though certainly there have been plenty of worse-sounding live albums foisted on helpless listeners in the years since.

Yeah, but the songs are great. The first of his "ditch trilogy", mood wise, sort of in between On The Beach & Tonight's The Night.
