So, they gave circus man a reason for his induction of many specials into his circus, but we still don't know if he has a reason beyond his power-up when around a bunch of people with powers... does he want to move the earth's crust around and create his own "Continent Samuel"? Who knows.
All I know is this show continues to not give a SHIT about making characters moronic as fuck and continues to make shit up as it goes. Sylar's consciousness has been haunting Matt Parkman and all of a sudden all it take to transfer it back into Sylar's body is a touch... WHAT? Peter doesn't seem to give a shit that the Hatian directs him to his brother Nathan's dead body, and doesn't seem too miffed that the guy who he's been hanging out with is actually mass murderer Sylar's body doppelganging as Nathan. Don't even get me started on the idiocy that Hiro continues to exhibit. "Master of time and space" my ass. I know, I know. I knew what I was getting into by continuing to watch this insipid show, but I had to vent.

I stopped watching a few episodes into season 3, but did the show ever address Peter Petrelli's mental retardation? I thought it was pretty gutsy of them to make an uber-powerful lead character with such an obvious mental handicap, but the fact that nobody on the show talked about it was a little weird.

No one mentions it because everyone else with powers also seem to have been beaten about the head with the stupid stick as well... especially Hiro, Parkman, Clair, and D'ohinder The only ones on the show who seem to have their shit together are Noah, the Hatian (who they actually gave a name to this season, Rene) and Sylar... but even they have their mental midget moments.
They also made it so now Peter can only take one power at a time, by touch. They limited Hiro by giving him a brain tumor, and just making his powers work (or not work) when the story needs it. The show is less garbage than it has been, but anything dealing with Claire brings the show to a grinding halt of boredom.

I'm calling bullshit on two of your last points.
1. The show is more garbage in a lot of ways (still watching it, but that's my fault) and 2. Say what you will about Claire, but this season has had Hayden Panatierre walking around in hot pants and making out with a chick. Best thing this ridiculous show has ever done.

I've enjoyed the slow burn of them revealing why Samuel is getting specials together in his carnival, and it might even tie in with the reason the world went kaboom in the one future they showed in Season 3 where everyone on earth had access to powers... but I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt of tying Samuel to that event. Just a fanwank thought. I really didn't enjoy last year's "rounding up specials" story, I like this one a little better.
Claire making out with a chick is cool and all, but still not worth the agony of the rest of her shitty scenes. I did like Ali Larter in the tub though.
