Cleo is from the UK, and I was not sure how familiar she was with the various states in the US

While I couldn't list every state, I usually recognize the names when I hear them, and if it was one I hadn't heard of I could likely guess from the context. I appreciate the effort though, when I was younger and newer to the internet a lot of Americanisms confused me, I'm just used to it by now

I was watching the Bourne Ultimatum last night at like 2 am (I'm sooooo tired right now...), and I thought it would be amusing if they'd named the Joan Allen character Lamela Pandy. That struck me as really hilarious for some reason, and I wanted to share that in case it might amuse you too.
That's all, go about your buisness ![]() " Lamela Pandy? Why didn't I think of that?"

I just cannot promise that I'll post regularly when I do join. Like, right now, I'm feeling highly conflicted about whether or not to post in the newly reinstated 'talk back' section for articles on CHUD, or to just post in the message board threads for those articles (or both??). The idea of trying to decide whether or not to discuss something at CHUD.COM or PODCAUST seems monumentally overwhelming in comparisonEDIT: Oh, and for those curious about how I pronounce the name 'Lamela', think Llama-la. Not Lam-a-la.

Hey everyone! Hope you're all having a nice Saturday. Not much has been going on at my Blog Party these past few days. I've been kind of busy at home and my job, both with unpaid house cleaning and paid work-doing. I have some ideas for posts (my favorite tooth paste, an upcoming trip I'm taking, my dogs , good food I've eaten recently ETC) but I havn't found the right confluence of free time and inspiration lately (which as I stated in my initial PKUBP2K9 posting was a requisite for any given post here). So, untill I come up with a better idea, I think I'll open up the floor to you guys.
Is there anything I've talked about that you want me to elaborate on? Any subject I've not yet addressed that you'd like me to unleash my scaple sharp wit upon? Let me know. I think I'm going to buy a digital voice memo thing soon, so I can save up all my good ideas for later. Half the time, I think of an awesome post, write the whole thing in my head, and then by the time I actually get around to typing it the next day it feels like a chore because I'm essentially rewriting what I mentally-wrote the previous night. I think a voice memo thing will help with that. PS I *did* have a chocolate-cake-crysis the other day, adn was going to live-blog about it in the midst of that incident, but at my house the space bar is still broken and I didn't want to do all that typing + hand cut and pasted spaces. It was harrowing though, I'll say that. PPS Did work out ok in the end though, thank god EDIT: An impressive display of Presidential Levitation to brighten up your day: ![]() If you photoshopped out the basket ball it would look like our President is about to do an aerial high-five with that older stocky guy. How cool is that?

As a final PKUBP2K9 entry before I leave work, I just wanted to let everyone know that I may soon become more machine than human. I already have orthotics in my shoes (on the advice of a PT guy, my feet are fine though, he just said that my arches are too high and should have support), and I may soon be getting glasses. As I move into a bionic future, I reflect on what brought me here. First off: I've always been able to see. From as long as I can remember, my eyes functioned as my windows to the world (god I hate myself for even typing something that cliched) and my primary tool for perceiving my surroundings. Then, one day in middle school, I went for an eye test. The news I heard shocked me to my very core: I would need glasses to see by the time I'm 30. "How could this be?", I asked myself. As I peered up at the doctor's craggy face, I knew he must be engaging me an a ruse. If I can see him now, why shouldn't I be able to see him 15 years from now? Hello, logic? So I scoffed off his warning and continued to utilize my ocular orbs to the best of their ability. By 11th grade, I did notice that eyesight in my right eye was blurrier than my left. After my parents got sick enough of my complaining about this issue, I went to get glasses. It was sad, and I didn't like how they looked on me. If I was meant to have glasses, wouldn't I have evolved with refracting glass lenses growing out of my face? (Of course!). I rarely wore them. Then about two years ago, when I accidentally stepped on them, it was 'no biggie'. I pledged to myself that I'd ignore the forecasted sightlessness that lay in my future, and to put my full faith in my eyes continued ability to see.
Any way........ that's not worked out so well. Over the past two years or so, I've noticed I'm squinting alot, and when I go to movies I realized that I keep my head cocked to the right so as to view as much of the screen as possible with my super duper amazing left eye "Welcome to Kate-9000's Ultimate Blog Party 2009" ![]() However, I am finding myself increasingly annoyed with these deficiencies in vision, and my decreased ability to perceive with clarity the light reflecting off objects. And so... I've made an appointment to get glasses. I can still see with out them, and I anticipate not wearing them most of the time (so I can look cool and not like a ocu-cripple), but sadly I have to get used to the fact I may soon view much of the world through panes of glass. I'm pretty distressed about this especially because I really have no clue as to what glasses look good on me and which ones don't. They all look awful, as far as I'm concerned If any of you out there wear glasses, you might know what I'm now going through. Does anyone have any good strategies to cope with sense of betrayal that comes from knowing your eyes are ignoring their geneticly mandated duty to assist in providing clear sight?

Quick question: Does anyone know how to make my bird less terrified of me?
If you couldn't see it in that photo, it's because it retreated to the top of the cage and is hiding in the back. Her name is Mango and she's a lovely bird (she's a budgie), but she lives at my Moms and I don't spend enough time in her company I guess... It makes me sad because I'm worried she is lonely I sing to her and whistle to her and she still seems scared and sad Any advice?

Birds are very social. If you aren't there to give her plenty of attention you might consider getting her a playmate.

If I had to spend the rest of my life cut off from all others of my kind, in a cage, when I was meant to fly, I would be terrified of my captor as well.
EDIT: Not to be rude, since it's not your bird, but my point is that I am entirely against keeping birds as pets like that. EDIT 2: Oh, it is your bird. But your mom keeps it? I would find some way to give it up to someone who would give it a better home, or just let it go, or something. Last edited by Chris Hill; 11-15-2009 at 05:44 PM. |

The stick visible in the photo is one I found for her, and we have mirrors to engage her mind ETC (and frequently rearrange items in her cage), but I do want her to have a friend, so I'll see what I can do Quote:
Well, normally I would agree with you.I did have a bird growing up (named 'Birdie', also a budgie) and she was always cheery and in high spirits, and so I've had good relations with avian previously. Earlier this year after I got my new puppy, my mom brought up the topic of getting a bird, and I agreed to it. The problem is that I can't keep birds at my dads, so Mango stays at my moms. As for giving Mango up, I could not do that. I made the choice of bird to get from Petco, so I owe it to her to make sure she has as comfortable a life as possible.I am not sure if you're familiar with the climate of New England, but a species of Parrot would not survive here. You may have previously read in my blog (or maybe it was a different post?) about the only kind of parrot that was native to North America, (the Carolina Parakeet), and for the past 400 years no other parrots have managed to thrive much less survive on this continent. I think Mango is an extremely clever and resourceful bird, but I cannot just loose her into the wild and expect her to single handedly overturn hundreds of years of natural history.

Quick update:
The space bar is back! I can now type much more quickly when I'm at home, as I don't have to add in each space by hand using the cut and paste function. This will help improve my posting since I now don't have to constrain my thoughts based on how long I'm willing to sit around adding back the spaces to what I've typed. Today is a great day I'll check back in once I'm at work. Have a nice morning!

Yeah, we have some wild parrots here in Austin, but I didn't think about the climate up there. Well, you owe it to the bird to spend as much time with it as you can, assuming you can get it to like you. Some birds do seem to like people, but for the most part birds and people have so little in common that it's usually best to allow them to enjoy the company of their own kind. Good luck with that. Glad to hear your space bar is back, since we had to miss out on the chocolate cake crisis.

Thanks, Chris! It's hard to really appreciate the space bar (the largest, ugliest and most cumbersome of all the keys) until you've had to type without one for two weeks.
And, yes, I'm doing my best to be a good pal to Mango. I'm still going to try to get her a feathered friend, and I hope that will cheer her up. Birds and people can make good companions though, do a YouTube search on parakeets or budgies, and you can find alot of cool videos of people chilling out with them. PS: The chocolate cake crisis was kind of a nutritional catastrophe. I am not sure if you ever read my daily schedule posting on the "Your Daily Schedule" thread, but as a rule I try to eat only once a day, and so if I don't have all the food I need at meal time, I end up going to sleep hungry which always sucks, and leaves me without energy the next day. I'd planned out my meal with the slice of cake (actually it was a slice of "Chocolate Decadence" from the local bakery. I'm not sure if it's cake or more a fudge/moose concoction. It's good, either way) being a cornerstone of that night's nutrition/caloretic energy, and instead I left it in my moms car.

I had to update my Blg Party before bed with this news:
Tonight I had a sighting of something that's left me shaken. Shaken, because for the first time in my life I saw something in the night sky that I have no explanation for. I'll write more tomorrow. I'll write dispassionately, and scientifically. I will not embellish either with hyperbole or dramatic license. I want to share my experience in as detailed a manner as possible, because in all honesty I really would like to hear an explanation for the event. Perhaps most unsettling of all to me is that I’m usually a pretty astute person, and yet… I am unable to fathom any possible explanation for what I saw I will keep you updated.

Hello podcaust people,
Quote:
I wanted to take a moment and address Mr GraveDigger's question breifly. Answer? I'm not sure.. It's taken using the iSight camera built into my mom's macbook. All the photos it takes are in reverse though, and I can't think of a good reason why it would do that. If any of you are mac users and know an answer, I'd appreciate it. I'll take some normal digicam pics sometime soon, because Mango is basically hidden in that photo (and the awesome name plate I made her is in reverse and unreadable). The macbook photo did a good job of illustrating my point about her fear of me, but it's not a great photo of the bird. She's cool and deserves a better imager of her on the intereweb. I'll get on that EDITED TO INCLUDE ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS: I should have just claimed I write in reverse like Da Vinci. Oh well, too late now
