Fun in the way that a strobe light is fun: Kind of neat initially but you wouldn't want to stare at it for 2 hours.

The chase through Paris was fun, but the whole epic 'battle on 3-4 fronts' at the end was pretty underwhelming... even boring. Even the Snake Eyes vs Storm Shadow fight. Their fight as kids was WAY more fun.

Eh, it's harmless stupid. The biggest problem is that Nichols and Tatum aren't good actors (they make Marlon Wayans look good), but Nichols has the benefit of wearing tank tops and jogging whilst wearing it. The supporting cast makes the film, but it's a little long for what it is.

Although I got a real kick out of the Paris sequence, I didn't really care for the film. It was one of the most superficial and uninvolving movies that I've seen all year (I haven't seen 'Transformers 2', yet).
That being said, Sommers' films seem to play better for me on DVD than in the theater (that was certainly the case for 'The Mummy Returns' and 'Van Helsing'). I suspect this will hold true for 'G.I. Joe' as well, as I'll be able to pause the damn thing whenever it gets to be too damn much.

The only negative about...G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra, was that it was too...short. If The Dark Knight can be 2 1/2 hours, then there aren't any reasons why G.I. Joe couldn't be a...2 1/2 hour film as well. All the actors were...Excellent (even...Marlon Wayans), the action was...Awe-Inspiringly Awesome!, and the final battle was...Epic. Alan Silvestri's score...Kicked Ass, and G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra is easilly...the best film of 2009! YO JOE!

GI Joe reminds me of relatively more 'innocent' times of the summer blockbuster. Emphasis on relatively. As Dre said, it's harmless. But that's also why I found it pretty dull other than moments by reliable character actors.
TF2, as much as I maintain that I enjoyed it ironically, is pure evil. |

True enough, harmless is the right adjective for this movie.
EDIT: It's however much better than the last few Stephen Summers movies, for whatever it's worth...

It's like Flash Gordon but with decent action scenes instead of the totally awesome soundtrack.

The fact they aren't into at least pre-production on a sequel make me wonder if this just a one shot deal. It's a shame Bay's doing another robot movie. He could really go crazy with this franchise.

Having just seen T2:ROF, GI Joe was far more enjoyable. No less stupid, to be sure, but less cynical and, somehow, less slick, despite being a kajillion dollar major studio release.
And GI Joe, at least, was comprehensible. ROF was one ridiculously ludicrous and essentially disconnected set piece after another. I can't believe I'm defending GI Joe.

"Whoa... That was crazy. I didn't expect that"
This line, spoken in the immediate aftermath of the Paris chase, sums up my feelings on the film. I expected it to be stupid, but it turned out to be zanier and crazier than I'd have initially thought. There were alot of fun aspects in the film, and overall I had a good time. The film never quite topped the Paris stuff, but then again watching the Paris stuff was more fun than I had during all of TF2 I actually liked it enough to have another go the next morning, though the plot holes started to become more apparent on a second viewing. The only thing that bothered me during the actual film though was the ice falling like rocks during the sub sequence. Ice floats, be it in cube or berg form. Ice will never sink to the bottom of the ocean. I really liked the international cast, and the global feel of the film. It was pretty much the exact opposite of TF2 where the US Marines seemingly operated independently without any Chi-Com cooperation or supervision in the middle of Communist China. (God that film is fucking stupid). I liked that this had interesting non American actors and was clearly trying to appeal to a global audience I even liked Marlon Wayans, though, Channing Tatum was about as cardboard as they come. That guy has a fan base? Seriously? This was the first thing I'd seen him in, but if the rest of the film hadn't been so much fun he could have sunk the picture with his brain dead line delivery PS I LOVE Dennis Quaid, but he kind of phoned it in and was dull too. Oh well, the ninja in the rubber fetish suit with the giant lips more than made up for it lol

Sorry to be a stickler, but there is no "Better." It's just "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints." Also, saying Tatum's performance in that was decent is a bit of an understatement, especially when compared to Joe.

It would help to convince people to watch by mentioning the movie also has Downey Jr.
And is an incredible film.

Tatum's also good -nah, the best thing of- Stop-Loss, but not so much in Fighting.
However, he's better than Terrence Howard. What the fuck was he thinking there?

In a moment of weakness, I picked up a Paris Pursuit Snake Eyes figure on clearance last night.
