1. Rushmore. This was the perfect movie for my life at the place and time I saw it. I love Max's dad's line to Max about being like one of those clipper ship captains who's married to the sea. "That's true. But I've been out to sea for a long time."

2. Batman Begins. Saw it on opening day with a friend, we ate dinner, and then we went back and saw it again. I love that even though his parents' killer gets gunned down by the mob, he becomes Batman anyway. That it's not just about scaring bad guys, but also about inspiring the good and giving back courage to the innocent. It got to the heart of Bruce Wayne without compromising the power of Batman. All the ninja stuff at the beginning is aces. And Liam Neeson. I still watch this all the time.

3. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Yeah, Raiders is better, and Marion will always be my favorite Indy girl, but this one is wall-to-wall fun.

4. The Empire Strikes Back. Epic, and so much bigger in every sense than its predecessor. It has the most heart, the most character development, and the most mythology of the entire series. Love it.

5. Pee-wee's Big Adventure. Random, ridiculous, and wickedly smart.

6. Mr. Mom. "Are you gonna make it all 220?" "Yeah, 220, 221, whatever it takes."

7. Conan the Destroyer. This one always gets slagged, but I love it for what it is. When I was a kid, my uncle Richard gave me a VHS tape he'd made from HBO that had this, The Princess Bride, and Aliens on it, and I watched it every day that summer. (The other two deserve to be on this list, too.) I hate that its only non-VHS release is an early, non-anamorphic DVD.

8. Big Trouble in Little China. Jack's CB monologue about not being alone in THIS universe is worth the price of admission alone.

9. The Mask of Zorro. For adventure, class, and Catherine Zeta Jones.

10. Quantum of Solace. Lean, mean, brutal, and entirely bad-ass.

Happy Belated Birthday Devin.

This thread is awesome. I cannot name just ten, but I love alot of the movies that have been put forth. One movie that I would add, which is for completely personal reasons is "The World According to Garp". I guess I was just at the right age and it was the right time, but I just love that movie.

Way too late and don't have any excuses. Happy birthday, Devin!

No matter what people say about lists like that, I always enjoy reading them when reasons for including this or that movies are explained in such detail, so yeah, great editorial and wonderful choice of movies on the list. Even though only two of them (Annie Hall, Shaun of the Dead) have a chance of being on my own favorite movie list, I like or even love all of them.

Not sure I know what my ten favorites are, but "The Last Detail", "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", "The Miracle of Morgan's Creek", "Big Lebowski", "Withnail and I", "Out of the Past", "Almost Famous" and "Playtime" all have a very good chance of being included, all for different reasons, but mostly because they are movies that I know I can always return to and enjoy.
