Am I the only one in the whole world who wants to see a good old fashioned Hammer/Universal style moster movie? This looks like it has the look of one but none of the soul. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's the metal riff, maybe I'm just a cranky old fart who misses practical effects.

I think the effects look decent enough, though. I like the bones snapping and muscle moving under the skin. No one's going to do this practically these days, sadly.

The thing I'm most terrified about is that this turns into another Van Helsing, with all of the look and none of the substance.

I agree about the look of it. It looks fantastic. Certainly great cinematography and i wasn't entirely convinced by the transforming effects on the first trailer, but this one gave me hope. It looks painful as hell, and that's a great thing.

The music on the trailer scares the shit out of me though.

Yep. I'm still having issues with seeing the seams of the CG but it does look like they're going for the painful transformation.

I agree with Alex, though. I'm terrified of another Van Helsing.

The transformation stuff looks great. They're mixing digital with practical, which is exactly what they should do. And there's no way this will be a VAN HELSING. The footage in that trailer alone is better than the entirety of VAN HELSING. Worst case scenario is BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA.

Well that publicty photo they keep running (Indeed, ran again with this article) looks awful. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it looks pretty fake and make-up-y and does not do a good job of selling the film.

With that said, I watched the trailer earlier today and it does look much better in motion.

As for a transformation topping "American Wearwolf in London", what about the transformations in Van Helsing? I know, I know... but they were pretty intense. The way people tore at their skin revealing fur underneath was pretty unsettling.

He gives a cursory rundown of the plot but avoids major spoilers. Basically nothing you couldn't discern from the trailers. No more spoilery than a regular review.

Actually, I'm probably one of the few people around who liked that one. But with that much being said, this looks better than Bram Stoker's Dracula.

I love that film. Such wonderful imagery, and some truly classic performances. Sure, there is the Keanu factor, but there is just too much to love to hold his Victorian Surfer accent against the entire film. It's one of my favorite films of all time, actually

I agree Francis Ford Coppola's BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA is one of the great vampire movies, despite featuring Reeves and Ryder in the ensemble cast. They are balanced out by Oldman, Hopkins, and Tom Waits. Although the movie is closer than anything else I've seen to the Bram Stoker work, it is still different enough to make including the name in the title a bit wrong. In fact the movie is deeply informed by the historic Dracula work of Raymond T. McNally and Radu Florescu.

Yeah, I'm sold, and I'm pulling for Johnston a little bit as well. And I didn't really have any Van Helsing flashbacks, which is weird because this is definitely the trailer that is aimed toward a younger crowd.

For the record, I too enjoy BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, flawed though it may be. I just mentioned it in terms of expectations -- I think it'll be much closer to that than VAN HELSING. And everything I've heard confirms this.

Works for me. I'm a fan of Coppolla's flick. It's got atmosphere to spare.

Might as well add Eric Red's Bad Moon to that list as it goes... actually, faults aside it is one great looking beast they show off in that flick in my humble opinion.
