Seriously though, it was interesting to read a review of something so permanently ingrained in (American) pop culture. If the collection hasn't reached the '60s yet (or if you haven't gotten that far), it's really when the strip found itself and became the definitive PEANUTS we all know. I don't think the characters in the Christmas special are too far removed from the strip in 1965, though the strip itself by then was considerably different from the '50s. But then again, the punchline of the very first strip was "There goes good ol' Charlie Brown... how I hate him!" So, you know, that cynicism was kind of always there.
