Hope everyone is having a nice Saturday morning

I just wanted to let you guys know that I still intend to write up my post about psychic powers, providing I find the time to write it up today. I don't want to half ass it, I won't post it unless I have the time to write up everything I want to say.

I spent hours laying in bed last night thinking and planning what I'd include in the post. Unfortunately I've forgotten half of it, and all that planning left me short on sleep. I did get biscotti on the way to work this morning though, so that is at least keeping me energized for now.

PS: A photo of biscotti! (Biscottis?)

I'm curious, has anyone gotten in touch with the Cocio people like I suggested? If so, what do you think of Cocio? Did they send you free bottles?

Just a quick update on my upcoming "Chud Thread of the Unexplained" post: I've been at work on it all day, and I've written over 4000 words. However, I have not done a lick of editing, and so I'll probably have to wait till later tonight, or perhaps Sunday or Monday to post it. Like Obama says, "You definitely have to do a few drafts of a paper before it's ready to hand in"

Thanks for the patience

Ok, I posted it! It is 4553 words long, and took me hours to write. I didn't really finish editing it so much as I just stopped. At a certain point it was hurting my eyes to look at that giant text wall.

Hope you guys find it interesting!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend, and no one is having a "case of the Mondays"

I guess I am having a slight case of the Mondays. I did not get anywhere near enough sleep last night. I was hanging out at the mall with friends yesterday, and purchased "APOCOLYPSE NOW: THE COMPLETE DOSIER" DVD (my first DVD purchase in forever!). I then went home to watch Mad Men, and when Mad Men was over, I decided I should start watching the "Redux" version. I was up till 3 30 am, and then slept only fitfully after that. By the time they got to the Monkey Sampan scene, I knew that real "Madness.." was staying up so late when I had a full day of work the next morning.

The worst part? I was wearing feety-pajamas to stay warm, and as a result slipped on the carpeting when I was descending a flight of stairs at my Dad's house. I tumbled half way down and hurt my knee My knee is now all sore and aching, and I'm too tall for these tiny office chairs which is only making it more uncomfortable

(I'm only 5'9, but these chairs are hella small. They're built for hobbits or something)

EDITED TO INCLUDE ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS: I guess more than the chairs it's actually my desk. It is too low and I cannot cross my legs comfortably. It is also not deep enough so I cannot extend my legs and they get all cramped.

EDIT 2: Oh my god! I just nearly had a heart attack. Remember the evil mannequin that invaded my place of employment? Well I was just doing my work when out of the corner of my eye, the mannequin started to walk across the room! I nearly toppled out of my chair before I realized it was just an old woman dressed EXACTLY like the mannequin and with similar hair who entered the lobby from exactly where the Mannequin was positioned.

Well never let anyone tell you the swine flu is all bad.

At my job today, it's been super busy. Combined with my knee pain, it's kind of exausting. However, not but a few moments ago, I was informed that due to absences I'd have to go cover the desk of a person whose job is alot less hectic than the job I'd been originally schedualed for today! This leaves me time to Chud and collect myself a bit. I really lucked out, given how tired I am today

Right now, comparitively, my job is like this:

My 'Case of the Mondays' has evaporated! Feel like I should be sporting a sun hat right now or something. At the very least my Orangina should have a mini paper umbrella

I would hope everyone here knows by that I am smart enough not to think "Reindeer Games" is a great work of art... But I guess not.

This is actually a bit depressing and makes me feel like my efforts to be a better poster on Chud have all been a waste. I don't know what to do to convince the people that dislike me that I am just as big a fan of (good) films as they are. I've written 2000 posts basically, and poured countless hours into typing on this site, and people are still hostile and assume the worst about me.

I was already feeling down today, so that post isn't entirely responsible for my current mood, but this kind of thing is really starting to bother me and I feel less and less able to just shrug it off these days. I don't know what I'm going to do, but if I need to leave the site to avoid the insults, I'll do that. If posting here is not fun, if I am unable to discuss film without being insulted or told that humanity would be better off if I were never born, then I have no reason to be here. The vast majority of the Chewers here are amazing people and I've had so many interesting discussions. However, it has been nearly 2000 posts, and alot of people still seem to hate me. After a while that becomes sort of hard for me to take on a day in and day out basis on the site.

Anyway, have a nice night everyone.

PS: I am fully aware the people who may be reading this are not the people I am bothered by, but I felt I needed to say it anyway.

EDIT:BTW.. Sorry if this comes off as hostile, I was having a really awful day

This is making you think of quitting being on the chud boards?!? People have said a lot of nastier comments about you then what you linked. I mean there's whole threads devoted to people's feelings towards you. I don't think anyone was being overly hostile in the thread you linked, and one chewer did point out what you intended....so I wouldn't get too bent out of shape if I were you. About that thread.

Bloody Wanker,

Sorry, I was having a really awful day already yesterday and by the time my work was almost over came the whole 'Reindeer Games' thing, so my tolerance levels were already low. I guess it just sort of came at a time when I was not in the mood to be insulted. I thought about it more last night and no, I'm not going to leave, I'm just really frustrated by stuff like that. Anyway, thanks for the concern. Most Chewers are awesome, as I've said. And you're right, one person did point out I was talking about Path to War, which is good I guess.

Anyway, I'm having a better day today and feel like my ability to ignore such comments is at a higher level tonight. After all.... Wensday is Hump Day! Hooray!

Quasimodo is excited too!

"Hooray for Hump Day! The only day where I fit in!"

And thanks, Anderson. I am sort of amazed people are reading it in the numbers they seem to be, but it's cool that you like it. Is there anything in particular that I've discussed that you found interesting? I mean, I can understand why this stuff if of interest to me, but I'm a bit confounded as to what aspects of it appeal to people who are not me.

Well, I just had quite the interesting time at Stop and Shop. The kind of time that sours you on the whole stopping and shopping experience.

1) I decided to purchase a "New England Style Lobster Cake" at a cost of $5.25. The estimated weight of the cake? 1.5 oz. On my buget, that is not a very good cost/nutrition ratio but I was in the mood to indulge myself, and besides I do not have much of an appetite anyway tonight

I asked the fish monger for the cake that was "In your opinion, the largest". Now, I already had an opinion as to which cakes were larger than the others, but as he may have had a vantage point that afforded a more complete view of the cakes than I had access to, I decided to put the matter in his (I assumed able) hands.

The cake I got was far and away the smallest of the bunch though, and I am now almost certain he did that on purpose! Arg!

2) As I walked past Orange Juice on my way to frozen foods (I wanted to get some frozen Creme Brule),a child jumped out at from the dogfood aisle shouting "BaBaBoom!" and waiving his arms wildly. A moment later his mother appeared, and shreiked in delight "You got her!", to which her son replied "She sure was scared!"

I could only react with stunned disbeleif. What is the world coming to when you cannot even purchase frozen foods without being set upon and menaced by unruley youth? What the eff is wrong with kids these days? I mean I know it's Octoberween and all, but yeesh..

Anyway, just wanted to offer up that tale of shopping-gone-awry as a final PKUBP3K9 entry for the evening. Now I'm off to watch more "WALLANDER" with Kenneth Branagh!

Trying out a new shorter, punchier sig. It was brought to my attention that people value concise and economical design in the signature section of a forum posting, and I'm attempting to cash in on that trend.

You could also use "TITUBA NO IN LEAGUE WITH THE DEVIL, SUH!"

But, that might be pushing the envelope.

Hahahaha, Yes I could! That cracks me up, lol

There are a good number of choice 'Crucible' quotes I can draw from in the future. I was going to go with a "Rufio" quote from 'Hook', but thought that might be more amusing to me than it would be to others. Ryder's "I saw <fill in the blank> with the Devil!" hysteria is always good for a laugh though

Since today is a Saturday, I thought I'd change it up a bit and make today's PKUBP2K9 entry about an idea that came to me last night. I could be mysterious and say it came to me in a dream, but actually I was watching "Age of Innocence" and eating cookies when I thought of it.

As you may know from reading the forum, I recently was unfortunate enough to watch Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, or as I call it, Racist Evil Soulless Nonsense: The Motion Picture

It got me thinking. How can it be so hard to write a good Transformers script? Michael Bay must take the lion's share of blame for this monstrously abominable film series, but writers Orci and Seaworld ( or whatever their names are) are ultimately responsible for penning such a meandering pointless story for Bay to work from. Is it really so difficult to come up with an interesting script when you have the concept of a race of mechanical super advanced god like killer robots to play with? I say: Nope! Kind of leads me to think that I might be a smarter person than Orci (see fig1 for my impression of Orci)

My proof? I came up with a rough outline for a Transformers film that would not suck.

You may or may not be familiar with the Cult of Pythagoras. It was a cult of Mathematicians who felt that fractions were demonic. They murdered and assassinated people over this belief. In the old days, people took math very seriously. Shane Carruth of 'Primer' had mentioned this story as one he'd one day like to fashion into a feature film.

Sorry Shane, I'm ripping off your idea and sticking in some Killer Robots

Here is, as far as I've thought it through, my idea for Transformers:

For the record, my idea is a sequel, and also kind of a reboot as it ignores alot of stuff from the first Bay/Orci film as well.

The Transformers and the Decepticons are engaged in a war that destroyed their planet and species, and has been waged for millennia with weapons unfathomably terrible and advanced. If a race could be as evolved as the Auto-robots clearly are, how could they still be fighting wars? What could they possibly disagree enough about to risk the annihilation of their entire species? Aren't super advanced aliens supposed to have outgrown such pettiness? To them, shouldn't war be just as obsolete as Robby The Robot seems when stacked up against Optimus Prime?

What principal could possibly be so important as to drive the transformers into a genocidal war?

Jingoistic Good v. Evil nonsense? No!

MATH!

As machines and robots, mathematics is essentially their religion. There is nothing more important in the universe, as the building blocks of reality and every aspect their very existence can be understood through mathematics (so they think). Now, I'm no mathimagician, but I bet you could research some arcane mathematical principal and say that the robots are fighting over it. Fighting over whether or not to round up or round down when they calculate fractions, essentially.

Not good versus evil. Instead, a conflict based upon ideas so esoteric and abstract as to be impossible for a human mind to fathom. They are fighting to the death over principles seemingly completely removed from the system of morals and ethics we are all used to

And so they come to earth, some befriend Shia , some stir up trouble, and the rest of that goes down much as in the first two films. However, there is the very real threat that they are bringing this insane Calcu-pocalypse to our planet, and we're all going to get trashed and caught in the cross fire for reasons we cannot begin to understand much less do anything about. And so the story is a conflict between Shia trying to convince his robot friends to stop fighting, the government trying to get rid of the bots, and the war between the two robot species playing itself out in spectacularly grand (and hopefully coherently edited) fashion in our largest metropolises. Shia has to weigh his fidelity and friendship to his new alien companions against the very real danger to the planet that they pose. All the while he is trying to teach his friends about morality and why fighting over math is an insane concept. Think "T2" and "I know now why you cry, but it is something I can never do". He has to teach the robots that concepts like "friendship" can be worth fighting and dying over, even if you cannot represent such a relationship with an equation... aww.

Plus, my basic set up leaves all sorts of room for metaphors and commentary on religion, war, and politics (or it would for a director with more going on up stairs than Mr Bay)

I do not know how it would end, I have a couple of different scenarios for that, but I think the basic concept I have just outlined is

1) More interesting
2) More dramatically sound
3) More logical than any "matrix of leadership" "cube shard" MacGuffin BS presented in the Transformers series so far.

Thanks for listening, and feel free to rip off my ideas. I think by having the Transformers be so concerned about something that to us seems so meaningless helps make them seem alien and awe inspiring again. Instead of "bust a cap in yo dome", they'd truly seem like god like beings from another world, and in a very fundamental way, unhuman. This makes Shia's faith in them and his fight (whatever the script works that out ot be) more meaningful than it would be if the 'bots come pre programmed for love and peace like they do in the current Trans-films. On the flip side, the decepticons would be all the more terrifying. Instead of mustache twirling cliches, they're suddenly implacable emotionless monsters, ready to wipe us out in a firey blaze of collateral damage all because they carry the "1" and the Autobot's don't.

PS: FIG 1: Author's impression of Transformer's screenwriter "Orci"

As a final PKUBP2K9 entry for the evening, I just wanted to update everyone on my spectacularly stupendous plans for tomorrow. I'll be going with a friend to an exibit of live endangered or otherwise amazing frogs. As you may be able to gather from my Avatar, this is something I won't want to miss. Oh, and the museum I'm going to? It also features in it's permanent collection a number of mummies. Should be cool. If anything noteworthy were to occur on this excursion, I'll be sure to keep you informed. If I spot a golden toad, you'll most definitely be informed

PS I'd be curious to hear any reactions to my Transformers idea. Positive or negative, it does not matter, I'm just wondering if I'm alone in thinking that is an interesting concept. I know my tastes and interests might not be in line with those of the average Trans-fan, but nevertheless, do you think my idea would make for a rousing time at the movies? .

Went to see the frogs! Amazing stuff, my favorite was a "Waxy Monkey Frog". It looked like Jabba the Hut. I took some cell phone pics and I'll try to upload them at some point. Oh, and the Mummy has a name! ("Pahat") He seemed pretty cool, and he has a son who lives in Poughkeepsie NY

Here is a shot of the Waxy Monkey Frog I got from googling:

In the mean time, here is a work from my favorite painter that I didn't want to clog up the "Your favorite Painter?" thread with:

PS! OMG, look, an entire blog entry from someone who went to the same museum show I went to! Check it out, she writes up about all the frogs I saw. The shot of the Waxy monkey frog that I included in this post came from her blog, and it is most likely the exact same frog I just saw today. It's a small world...... I was looking for photos of the waxy monkey frog that looked like the one I saw, but could not find any. Then I see one that looks the same on google, and it turns out to be literally the exact same fucking frog I saw this afternoon. My mind is now blown.

Still can't believe I stumbled across a photograph of the same Waxy Monkey Frog I saw this afternoon. In trying to find a suitable photo to prove how much the frog I saw looks like Jabba, I somehow find a photo of the precise frog in question by random chance on google image search? There are millions (perhaps even billions?) of frogs in the world. Heck, there must be more photos of frogs than there are actual frogs! The odds of me finding a picture of the same frog I was thinking about seem incalculably astronomical. This goes down as maybe the most amazing coincidence to happen to me in at least the past six months.

Has anyone else ever been harassed by a highschool teacher you never had and can hardly even remember? For the past few weeks at my job, one has been coming in and giving me all these dirty looks about still being in town and all this "thoughtful" advice about what I should be doing with my life. The worst part is I don't even fucking know who he is. He acts like we were mentor/protege or something, and I can't even remember what subject he taught. In fact, I think he may have been a sub. I intend to write about this more tomorrow as I find it pretty annoying. Today (not even kidding) he was trying to get me to tell him what the equation "Y=-3" would look like when graphed in two dimensions. I flatly replied "I no longer indulge in math, sorry".

Part of me was a little annoyed with myself for forgetting how to graph it, because I know I knew at some point, but then I found myself more annoyed that anyone had the audacity to ask me in the first place. I am not the Geometry-Answer-Lady.

I ended up just googling it for him, and then he told me "but you didn't do the math". Is he kidding? Is this normal for teachers to do? I mean, I still talk with some of my favorite teachers. But this guy? I don't know who he is!

And now I can't even get up the guts to just say to him "I don't know who you are. Leave me alone". I have to act all "Oh hey... It's you!" every time he shows up.

Well, I'm a little disapointed that there has not yet been much interest in an Octoberween Movie night on Chud. I'm still stuck home handing out candy, so if anyone wants to pick a movie and watch it while discussing it in the chatroom tomorrow night, leme know. It's now too late to get anything through netflix, and so we'd have to either go with "Alien" , "Blade" , or something on NETFLIX INSTANT VIEW, as that's all I'll have access to on Halloween. Let me know if anyone else plans to join me in the chat (Either by PM or in the CHUD CHAT ROOM thread, no need to reply here). Right now I'm anticipating a 6 30- 7 PM start time for the movie, as that leaves me enough time after work to get cleaned up, fed and costumed (This year I'm going as an Obama Inaugeration Participant. I'm just going to put on all my buttons and shirts adn stuff)

See you there!

Happy Halloween, Mwa-hahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa

Happy Halloween, Mwa-hahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa

Good morning, Chud-munity! I wanted to open with that traditional holiday greeting. Why say it twice you ask? Well because in my family we have this orange plastic doorbell box thing that says that phrase, and I guess the manufactures found it so delightful they designed the orange box to say it twice with a single button push. So it's kind of a running joke in my family. We'll do an imitation of the voice saying "Happy Halloween, Mwa-hahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa" and then do another identical imitation immediately afterwards. I'm glad I could share this festive seasonal detail with you all on this glorious Halloween morning.

Anyway, today is the big day. It's loomed all month long, and throughout Octoberween, my self control has been strong. Self control? Why yes. It's the only thing that's kept me from eating the mountains of free candy I've encountered over this past lunar cycle. Today however? Today I'm tossing self control out the window. My job has buckets of fun sized (Or, SATAN SIZED) candy bars strewn around the work place. We have snickers. We have twix. We have milkey way. And as of this moment, I have an empty stomach. I had some California Pizza Kitchen BBQ Chicken Pizza( See Fig 1) last night around 6:30PM, but other than that, I havn't eaten a bite. I will use this day and this day only to eat candy.

So what's my plan? THIS:

I will keep you updated on each and every bite of candy I consume throughout the day. I will tell you what kind it was, and how much of it I ate. I will do this because hopefully I'll be more hesitant to mindlessly munch at my desk if I know I need to update my Blog Party every time I do. I was going to include a calorie count, but I just noticed they don't put that information on the fun sized bars. Maybe it's better that way..

It should be interesting

Oh, and I hope I'll be seeing some of you later tonight in the chat room for a NetFlix instant view movie. I should be in there around 6:00-6:30. I'm open to any suggestion of what we should watch. I'm stuck at home handing out candy tonight, so this might be a good way to pass the time. Also, I need to do some last minute pumpkin carving after work. I'll be sure to post some photos and would love to hear reactions to my vegetable-augmentation art. Oh, and I also have the evil dead films on DVD in case we wanted to do those.

*FIG 1:

This pizza is made with Smoked Gouda Cheese, my favorite kind of cheese

THE CANDY CONSUMPTION MINI-BLOG:
Ok, 10:39 am. I've just finished spell checking this post, and I'm now unwrapping a Twix... It's going to be a long day.
11:15... another twix
11:40 A milkey way midnight bar
12:11pm-12:48pm Slowly ate another twix

Hey everyone, just wanted to make a brief All Saints Day PKUBP2K9 entry.

I went back to the frogs! Today was the last day of the show, and I wanted to be sure to return before the frogs are turned into dogfood (or whatever they do with them). I brought my regular digicam this time and got some amazing shots of both the frogs, Pahat The Mummy, and other cool stuff at the museum. I'm going to post a gallery either today or in the next few days that should include the shots. I'll keep you updated.

EDIT: Just checked my camera... I took like 500 photos. Yikes. I have to hand resize each photo I want to put in a Chud-album, and the prospect of that task is not fun. So, I'll post the pics, but might be a few days. And I won't be posting all 500. More of a 'best of' kind of album.

PS: I asked a museum person about the frogs, and he independently referred to the WMF (Waxy Monkey Frog) as "the one that looks like Jabba the Hut from Star Wars". So I'm not alone in thinking it looks like that.

PPS: I am really proud of myself for only eating a few pieces of candy yesterday. However, last night was super rained out, and we only got a few trick or treaters. We now have mountains of left over candy sitting around the house, and I am not sure this bodes well for my diet in the next few weeks..

Concieved today's PKUBP2K9 entry this morning in the shower, after a rather unpleasent alarm clock mishap. Hope you find it... illuminating!

Daylight Savings Time... or daylight stealing time?

All this past week, the topic of the nationwide schedualing mayhem known as Daylight "Savings" Time has been on my mind. As the turnover loomed, I became increasingly worried about the inevitable confusion that would ensue from this bizarre national tradition. And then, Sunday morning at 2 am, it happened, and I finally realized I'd had enough. As I stood teetering on a kitchen chair, arms outstretched and wishing desperately that god made me a few inches taller so that I could reach the wall clock, I was struck by an Epiphany. This was not daylight savings of any kind. No, what was happening now was nothing less than the governmentally mandated theft of our most precious natural resource: our sunlight. It's a scheme so bold even a Bond villain would think twice before embarking on a power grab this audacious. Not since the days of the Pharaohs have a nation's elite claimed authority over not just their citizenry, but the sun itself. Forgive me, but when it comes to masters of space and time, I'll take Ra over James Inhoff anyday.

Like the structure of the school year and the rules of baseball, Daylight "Savings" Time is a relic of the agrarian age. A bygone era when most citizens would hear the word "Harvest" and think of a kind of seasonal work, not a variety of cheddar cheese. Those days are gone though, and will never return. Why then do we hang on to such an outdated system? I mean, it's not like we're still clinging to other irrelevant ancient customs and practices!

Oh.. Nevermind :
Quote:
"[Pelosi] is committed to her global warming fanaticism to the point where she has said that she's just trying to save the planet," Bachmann told the right-wing news site OneNewsNow. "We all know that someone did that over 2,000 years ago, they saved the planet -- we didn't need Nancy Pelosi to do that."

Daylight Savings? Even the name itself is an exercise in grand deception on an unprecedented scale. The sense of sad irony one gets from hearing of the "Patriot Act" or "No Child Left Behind" pales in comparison when you consider the lie at the heart of "Daylight Savings Time". Daylight savings? Is it like the National Strategic Oil Reserve? Are we storing it in some mirror-lined underground reservoir, pumping in the sunshine to save it up for a rainy day? Obviously that notion is fantasy. If left unused, the light will disappear forever. With no effective means to capture and store it, it hurtles past our world at 299,792,458 metres per second, racing out towards distant cosmos, it's potential for illumination forever lost.

Now, believe me, I can understand the value of having an extra hour's daylight in the summertime. Those long days are wonderful, and being able to bike around my town until nearly 9pm without turning on my safety blinker is a godsend. You don't need to be a farmer planting seeds to see the value of more light to see by in the evening. With that said though, I cannot for the life of me understand what value there is to shortening the days in the winter. The days are already shortest when the temperature drops, so why on earth you'd want to legislate away more sunshine than we already lose in January is beyond me. Is there some hidden benefit accrued by allocating daylight from... you know, daytime, to 4: 45 fucking am?What good can sunlight do so early in the morning? Is there any benefit at all? And if there is, why is it unique to the winter months? Shouldn't the same supposed benefits of this time shift apply all year round, if they apply at all? Of course they should, and this is just further proof of the fact that there is NO reason for such a time change. If more sun later at night is good in the summer, surely the same is true for the winter. By December, the sun will have set by 4 PM in Massachusetts. Congress has sentenced vast swaths of the country to an eerie silent twilight world, were we live out our days in cold dark, the odds of the sun ever rising again roughly on par with the odds of surviving the night without freezing to death. Sure, more light in the summer is great, but if there is a time of year where it's most desperately needed, winter is that time.

And yet, in our time of greatest need, the sun and it's life giving energy is stolen away from us. Stolen not by the inevitable revolution of our celestial sphere, or by the alignment of the planets and stars. No, it's stolen by our legislators. These men and women have managed to do what no king or despot ever managed before in all of recorded history. They've set themselves up as ultimate masters of the greatest resource there is: Time itself!
What gives congress the authority to do this? I elected them to fix my roads and fight my wars, not steal away the very the light by which I see.

I can understand Congress playing the keeper of the national purse, monitoring and allocating funds as it sees fit. I know that if there was not a figure with some authority to control our spending, for example, the budget would be wasted on megachurches and border walls. With that said however, I did not elect them to decide how much illumination I should receive each and every day. That is something that should be left up to no single person or governing body. That is something determined eons ago, as the planets formed and collected, and our ancestors evolved in accordance with the cycles of nature.

So what do I propose? This:

(--print this part out if you want to get it on your local ballot or something--)

Kate's plan for a brighter, lighter and better world:

Eliminate Daylight Stealings Time
Eliminate Time Zones*

I submit this pledge: I will not surrender my daylight just because my government so orders it. I will continue to tell time as it truly is. I'll have to show up to work at the adjusted time, but I'll be damned it I'll refer to the adjusted time figures. Just because some bureaucrat says I'm typing this at 2pm, doesn't mean I'm going to play along for even one moment. It's 3 pm, and that won't change until the sun burns out and dies 5 billion years from now

* I'd like to move to a universal hour clock on a global scale, where time remains constant no matter where you are. So, 4am may mean noon for some, night time for others. We'd get used to it eventually as we grew up with these new methods for telling time. Children would be fine with the concept of the 8am hour as midnight if they we're raised to think that made sense. If you traveled, you'd never have to adjust your watch, just your understanding of what the significance of a certain time was. If you're in Massachusetts and it's 12pm (and 12 equals noon, for the purposes of this example), and you fly to Los Angeles arriving at 3pm, you don't have to touch a single button on your alarm clock. You just remember that in LA, 3pm IS noon (and then adjust relevant times in your head and set the alarm accordingly).

Simple enough, and would save alot of headaches and hassle

Thanks for reading

It's getting late (Or it may not be..Can't tell which clock is the one I'm supposed to be paying attention to at this moment), but I just have a small comment to add about my scientific article I published at my UBP2K9 earlier this afternoon

Ugh. I'm sick of looking at that Fred Phelps protest photo already. I should have gone with a Sarah Palin shot and it would have made the same point. I intend to change it tomorrow, as those offensive signs have no place at my Blog Party (even when I'm citing them as examples of religious idiocy). BTW, I do get a kick out of the logic (math?) on that one sign in the back:

Fag/Sin=9-11? Fag over sin equals nine minus eleven?

Grammar+logic=too much to ask?

Kind of a perfect argument against the home schooling those fanatics depend on

Ok, this PKUBP2K9 entry is going out to the Podcaust Forum people.

I guess I didn't redact my post quickly enough! I was kind of shocked to see I have fans, and posted about the topic of internet fame. Then I decided it might come off as self absorbed to post about it, and it was better to just post as if I were in ignorance about my "fan base". I don't want to become full of myself. You guys seem cool though, so nothing personal. It's kind of flattering actually to have so many people reading my blog, so thanks for the interest in my thoughts/ideas! I guess right now Chud is kind of eating up most of my time and the idea of trying to stay on top of the comings and goings at two forums seems a little overwhelming. Plus, Chud seems more movie centric, which is what drew me to this particular board in the first place. Anyway, I was interested to see such a cross over of Chewers and Podcausters, like Jake, for example. So good to know that Chud people are similar to Podcaust people, and indeed are sometimes one and the same

If anyone has any comments or questions about issues or topics I've raised here (My Transformers idea, my timezone idea, etc), I'd be happy to discuss them, and I am not totally ruling out joining your forum at some point.

Have a nice day!

PS: Who is Rob? Why was he banned from Chud?

PPS: Removed the Phelps photo, went with a Michelle Bachman quote

Site has been revamped. It's actually http://www.braindeadradio.com now.

Who is Rob?

http://chud.com/forum/member.php?u=3943

He wasn't banned, per se. His password was reset. You can have a look at his last posts to figure out the cause.

Quite a few crossovers from both boards.

Just a quick final PKUBP2K9 entry before I leave work today. The subject? How much people suck. Just moments ago at my job, I was having this woman fill out a form. She seemed pretty hip and her hand bag clearly cost more than my TV. She was being kind of rude by not even looking at me as she talked and being very dismissive with all my questions even though I was only trying to do my job and help her out. Here's the kicker. I asked her to write "Your last name first and your first name last" on a certain part of the form . Her reply? "No". I just look at her thinking "Jesus christ, what's the problem now?" and she then offers clarification (again without even bothering to make eye contact). "I only have one name". I'm thinking "Huh... like Prince?". I compliment her on her name though and remark that it's a cool idea to only have one name (not my real opinion but I'm paid to be polite ). She then says, offhandedly in a total deadpan like she doesn't even care if I'm listening or not "There is something so bourgeois about people with two names".

Seriously? Did she seriously just insult me for no reason other than she has less names than I do? I mean, she must have known that I most likely had more than one name. Therefore she must have known she was calling me low class basically. WTF?

People suck.

I'm pretty sure over here in the UK it's impossible to have only one name. When I was getting my name changed one of the rules was that you must have a first name and a surname.

She actually mentioned she was from Montana or Wyoming ( Those are states in the US, Cleo) or some place that allowed her to change it to one name and how in Vermont* (where she lives) people in official positions hassle her regarding the lack of a surname. So, she wasn't born that way, but chose to have one name. Why then make remarks about people who have more names than her? The more I think about it the more I realize she is one of the rudest people I've ever encountered at my job. Seriously sociopathic behavior. "Bourgeois "? Who on earth calls people bourgeois?

EDIT: * Vermont:Also a state in the USA

People suck.
Except that the term refers to the rich and cultured classes. Originally the middle or merchant classes in Europe, but now pretty much consumerist classes.

Yes, I meant culturally low class. As in, tasteless. You can watch 'American Idol' and make over a million dollars a year. She was accusing me of being an American Idol viewer essentially for not going by just "K8" or something. Lol

Today's PKUBP2K9 entry is a very significant one. This entry falls exactly one year after the most important event in American History since the end of WW2. I remember where I was at the moment MSNBC called the election, and the mix of emotions I felt that evening I'll never be able to put a name to. It was a feeling of relief, exhaustion, and exaltation at finally seeing the promise of America realized in my lifetime. Keith Olbermann had remarked at 10 30 PM that Obama needed only Hawaii and California to get over 270 in the EC, and I'd known then that he won. However, after more than two years of constant nightly Hardball viewership, and more than 8 years of Bush, I needed it to be announced in plain spoken language before my brain would register that I was now living out what I'd so long imagined. Before I'd understand emotionally and not just intellectually that a great moment in the history of the world was happening, I'd need to hear "And MSNBC is now ready to project a winner and the Next President Of The United States". And when they made that call, for about 10 seconds it still was hard to believe. As the cameras cut to a live shot of Grant Park and the crowd began to cheer (I assume to this day that they had an MSNBC feed going because the cheers started right at that moment) , it became real and the feelings hit all at once in a wave. I thrust my hands in the air, clenched my fists and cried tears of pure emotional exhaustion. One of the greatest moments in my life

And so, after sharing that brief anecdote, I'll share a few images, and then a bit of local election news

A nice photo of Grant Park on 11/4/08

My FAVORITE election newspaper cover*:

My second favorite cover. I like the simplicity and the giant font. It says all you need to know:

*Still can't find a good high rez shot of it though!

Ok, and for the local news, super corrupt local Mayor Barret of North Adams Mass was defeated after more than 20 years. I thought it would never happen. He even took to running TV ads in a bid to keep his seat. The crass message he chose to air? A condescending paternal male voice saying "Let's keep The Mayor The Mayor" as if the idea of voting for anyone other than the incumbent in a democracy was somehow an absurd notion. Good bye and good riddance! I learned this this morning, and I cannot think of a better day for such great news. I'm falling in love with America all over again

And so, on this day, I wish our President well, and I'm looking forward with an eager heart to Tuesday the 6th in 2012, when I'll once again be able to exercise my sacred franchise in support of this most honorable of canidates

Go bama go bama go bama go!

PS- This was in two parts because for some reason it told me I'd put in six images in my first post despite putting in only four

EDITED TO INCLUDE ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS: Obama is wearing Air Jordans in that photo. How long before Nike comes out with Air-bamas?

PPS: I have room for more photos on this post, so here is one that showd the human side of our Commander In Cheif. The Huffpo featured these today, they're recent uploads to the President's Flickr page:

Belly Rub! Belly Rub! (This is what I say to my corgi when I scratch her belly)

You know I was just wondering Kate, why you don't just move your blog to a regular blog hosting website and just link to it on the boards and in your sig. The reason I say this, isn't out of hostility, just that I feel that you'd more likely reach a wider audience.

I mean if, like you said a few posts back you feel that people have stereotyped you, and are unable to get over their first impression, then why don't you simply move your blog to the general blogosphere where you're more likely to get the kind of readers you might want ?

I think all the issues you face on these boards simply stem from the fact that you have the amount of energy required to run your own blog or website, but just too much for a message board, where posting in every forum might be perceived as semi-spamming.

Again, I haven't actually read your blog here, so this isn't hostile in anyway or insulting, I'm just trying to help. I just think with all the energy you seem to have, you might as well just start your own proper website/blog.

Thanks for the in put, NameUser.

Rumors of my omnipresence are greatly exagerated. I am actually in not many forums at all. I post on topics I have something to say about, and no more. You might notice I've posted in the music forum maybe twice since joining. Probably 50 times in the politics forum though, because I care about politics.

As for blogging on Chud, Chud is the audience I care about because (hopefully) they've gotten to know me a bit from my posting. I like being part of this great site Nick, Devin ECT have made

And, the energy I have for posting here comes from being part of an exciting and vibrant online community. It gets me pumped to participate and be an active member of the Chud-Munity. If were on BlogSpot or something, it would be a community of one and that is kind of lame.

Oh, and PS: The issues I was having with other Chewers I wrote about a few posts back were unrelated to my blog. If you read what I'd written, it was that someone accused me of saying Reindeer Games was a great work of art, a grave insult. Not related to my UBP

Just a quick PKUBP2K9 entry for today.

Sometimes I dream up names for products that don't exist yet. I'm inspired to do this because I read a book one time (I forget the book) that talked about how Big Pharma has the names worked out for AIDS and Cancer and Baldness cures, and the marketing campaigns all ready to go. They're just waiting for the science to catch up.

So, we've all heard of coolant? It cools stuff down or helps it maintain a steady temperature.

So how about "Coilant"? It either coils stuff or helps maintain existing coils.

Feel free to take that idea and run with it, if you're a Chemist

PS: Has anyone noticed that some posts from me in the evening hours have had spacing issues lately? Suchasthis? My space bar at home broke and so when I post from home I type it all without spaces, then copy and paste the spaces in afterwards. Not only is this deeply frustrating and kind of kills my enthusiasm for typing at home, but it leads to typos (or as I might say from home, leadstotypos). Just wanted to offer a heads up as to what was going on

EDITED TO INCLUDE AN EXAMPLE OF PROPER USAGE FOR MY NEW WORD:

"Tell Robert to go down to the store room, looks like we're going to need about a half gallon of coilant"

Just got back from a funeral reception I went to on my lunch break. Working with the public means you meet alot of people, and unfortunately it also means you end up knowing more people who die. Three people I know have died this week, it sucks. What do you say at those things? I always feel awkward and out of place at that kind of event when I don't know anyone, so I just sat around eating celery sticks and crackers

PS: I'll try and work on uploading a few frog pictures today, though I think it's going to be a work in progress for a while. I have too many photos to sort through to do it all in one afternoon. That's ok though, gives any amphibian enthusiasts out there something to look forward

PPS: Went with a new sig, thoughts/reactions are welcome. Tell me if it's too annoying. I get a kick out of it, but I have a unique sense of humor
