Alright, as of tomorrow morning I will be out of touch for at least thirty days. I've got some personal business to take care of, get myself healthy and right. I'm going to miss you princes of B action, you kings of Chud.
I'll be with you in spirit. Whenever you're watching or thinking of watching THE ROOKIE, just imagine me wagging a finger and flinging some poo. Never forget. I will return. P.S., I would be remiss if I didn't use my last post in a while to tell you all to seek out Olivier Gruner's AUTOMATIC. I'm curious as to what others think.

Hope everything goes well for ya, Keith. We'll be waiting for you. I will try to track down AUTOMATIC. Scouts honor.

See you in thirty, Keith! I'll definitely be making my monthly viewing of The Rookie some time soon.
Jox, I think they're all gone, because I've been to two more, and they were devoid of Command Performance as well. I did get the blu-ray of G.I. Joe: Rise Of Cobra as well as Uncharted 2.

Good luck to you as well, Keith! Hopefully you'll be back for our 1,000th page celebrations.
Guys, check this out! You won't regret this. Simply incredible! |

duke fleed, glad to hear that you've got access to the internet. You don't have internet on your cell phone? I just got it earlier in the year when I upgraded phones, and now I can get on the internet (specifically the CHUD boards) whenever, and especially WHEREEVER I am.

Not an Action movie, but i watched The Molly Maguires last night. Interesting little sleeper. (Always been fascinated by the famous true story) Stars Richard Harris, Sean Connery & Anthony Zerbe(!).
Cool to see King Arthur face/off against Richard the Lionhearted! Connery was good, especially in his final scene, but i came away-after a recent viewing of Major Dundee as well-- reminded how great Harris really was. With his intensity, actually would have been cool seeing him tackle some kind of heavy action role. (Sadly, he died before he could even do the cool Harry Potter fight stuff) I'm thinking about giving Orca a go! Curious about The Wild Geese and Juggernaut. I'm thinking about giving Orca a go!.....really Last edited by Fat Elvis; 11-03-2009 at 11:14 PM. |

Those posters were pretty damn good looking. Sucks that they took them down already.
I haven't seen Danny The Dog (Unleashed) in a long time. My girlfriend loves this flick a lot. She also digs Kiss Of The Dragon with the magnificent Tcheky Karyo. "KISS MY ASS!" Elvis, Orca is great. I proudly own the dvd. You should see it. The Wild Geese is also fabulous. Everyone in this thread should see it.

I only remember odd fragments of ORCA, from its original cable run back in the day.
I do remember liking The Wild Geese, but I wonder if in my brain I'm merging Wild Geese with its sequel, strangely enough called Wild Geese II. It's also been at least twenty three years since I saw those movies.

I saw them both over the span of a few weeks back in 2004. Wild Geese II is a good Scott Glen vehicle, but I like the first one more. For the camaraderie that Burton, Harris, Moore, and Hardy Kruger have.
I used to watch Orca when they'd show it on TBS on saturdays. I always remember TBS on saturdays for always showcasing some type of animals/insects gone wild film.

Wild Geese II also has Barbara Carrera. The Bond babe from Never Say Never Again.

Forgot that she was in Wild Geese II. That's another plus for it. Still prefer the original though.

Here's a "nature fights back" gem, DAY OF THE ANIMALS, that used to get a lot of play from the local horror show host, Sammy Terry:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075913/ Shirtless Leslie Nielsen, baby. Have any of you seen John Frankenheimer's PROPHECY, with ingenue Talia Shire? Always liked the fucked up creature in that one. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079758/ Ever since I saw Not Quite Hollywood, I've wanted to find LONG WEEKEND (1978). I'm always up for a good nature fucks with humans movie. EDIT: Barbara Carrera is also the trim du jour in LONE WOLF McQUADE, to bring things full circle.

I've read about Day Of The Animals. If I remember correctly Leslie Nielsen fights a bear. I want to see it for that alone.
I bought Prophecy last February after seeing bits and pieces of it on AMC when they would show it a few years ago. That flick is awesome. Armand Assante as a badass Indian!

And Duke, have yourself an...amazing vacation in San Francisco, and report to us if you find out who the...Zodiac Killer is! LOVING The Perfect Weapon so far. Some plot holes you could bust a tire on, but SO badass and enjoyable.

No Dolph on that G4 show today. Don't know what happened. Spent a whole 2 minutes zipping through the thing and nada. Hope he was enjoying his birthday and decided to reschedule.
COMMAND PERFORMANCE Blu-Ray is down to $17 on Amazon. When I first pre-ordered it it was $19, but they're cool about charging the lesser price if it drops. Hope that and the JOE Blu-Ray arrive soon.

Those posters are making me REALLY anticipate the flick. After seeing him in Terminator: Salvation, I'm a big Worthington fan now.

Never got into the original as a kid. Wasn't my thing at all. Like Neeson and Fiennes so I may check this out in theaters. Cool posters though.
Gonna go watch the new V, be back in a little bit to complain about the stuff they changed from the original mini-series.

The tv thread for V has me leery. I missed out on seeing it earlier, and I don't have a DVR so I'll have to catch it on Hulu or something. The word is not good though. This is also stemming from the very positive word of mouth that it's been getting prior.
I don't recall ever seeing the original Clash Of The Titans. Harry Hamlin did reprise his role as Perseus in God Of War II. Watching my non-anamorphic dvd of Grosse Pointe Blank before I go to sleep. Aykroyd and Cusack are friggin' awesome! I haven't seen the flick in a while, but I remember immediately liking it when I saw it for the first time back in 2000.

I didn't realize that Alan Tudyk was in the new V. Bonus points, but so far not so impressed.
Worthington was the ONLY thing good in TERMINATOR: FIRE SALE. He's the tipping factor on whether I think AVATAR will be worth a look. Oh, who am I kidding, a 3D James Cameron film, I was going to see that no matter how silly the internet chatter became. While I've soured on some of his output, I'm still amazed by the original TERMINATOR and have grown rather fond of THE ABYSS over the years. I actually prefer his director's cut at this point. By the way, Scott Wolf is sixty seven years old. Like Keanu Reeves, he might also be an immortal.

Don't trust what dopes on the internet say! I thought the new V was mostly entertaining, it moves fast (maybe... too fast??) and a lot of stuff happens. The original will always be better, but I'll definitely keep watching this until it gets cancelled and replaced with some boring generic crime drama. One scene reminded me of the one in They Live where all the rebels are at their secret hideout and the aliens attack them.
"It's time to stop talkin' about how it happened... now we start spillin some blood!"

I missed the new V.
(No Marc Singer!) I remember when the original mini-series hit, it was one of those "holyee shit..did u see it?!" playground events. It was freaky and scary. By the time the regular series rolled around, it had fallen off into ridiculous silliness. (I saw Sci/Fi was running mini-series, but I'd rather keep it as the far out legend of my memory) I never quite loved Frankenheimer's PROPHECY, but you can't not like it a little bit. Stupid crazy. I do want to see how that one plays now. I dont know why geeks make a big deal about non-anamorphic dvds. Sure, it's not preferable, but not the end of the world. You still get the aspect ratio, as opposed to the VHS days. Shouldn't be a deal breaker. Movie itself always trumps tech details, imho. |

New V was ho-hum for the most part. Wasn't feeling it until the THEY LIVE-esque scene that Hans described. Picked up a bit there and they threw a few twists out that will get me to watch next week. Needs more ray-guns.

I'll agree that V picked up a bit toward the end, with the aforementioned They Live resistance movement. I'll DVR it so I can catch it in a few weeks.
I'll also agree that rayguns are imperative. The lizard aspect is going to go nowhere, I bet.

I can;t remember, is THE DEFENDER one of Dolph's good ones?
And how's THE JOSHUA TREE? I'm intrigued because it was the first movie he made after UNISOL, and it was directed by legendary stunt / action unit co-ordinator Vic Armstrong.

Both are good, JOSHUA (ARMY OF ONE) is better and still has the best mock-Woo shootout ever filmed. Wish Armstrong had directed more but he probably earns more being a stunt coordinator for the blockbusters.
For a first time directorial effort THE DEFENDER was a solid siege film. Loaded with brutal headshots.

DOLPHOPALOOZA is ON, people!
Clash of the Titans looks mofuckin' bitchin'!!!!!! Like, bitchin' in the sense that someone has nothing but Motorhead, Dio, Ted Nugent, and the Heavy Metal soundtrack on their iPod. The Perfect Weapon wasn't PERFECT, but it was sure as hell a SWEET movie! Speakman was quite the badass, and I loved the fight scenes, so that's really all that matters. It's also a breezy 80 minutes without credits, so it doesn't take any time fucking around. We need this on DVD QUITE badly, people! But I will say that Keith was right in saying it was a pretty obvious way for Paramount to steal WB's thunder and have their own brand of martial arts superstar. See the trailer too, narrated by friggin' Optimus Prime!

I'm sure there will be a lot of promotion at Cannes. Don't know if they'll screen the film, but I'd expect a lot of the cast to be on hand for the festival. Same goes for Comic-Con in July.

playing catch-up:
Keith: Best of luck on your hiatus. Take care of yourself! 'Clash of the Titans': the posters look promising. I liked but didn't love the original (mainly because of Harry Hamlin), but those posters have me pretty motivated to catch this in the theater. 'V': I turned it off after about 40 minutes. It was boring and did a poor job of telling TOO MUCH INFO in a short period of time.

Look at fleed getting his drink on.
I almost can't blame you for clicking it off after 40 minutes, Judas. But it did get better toward the end. Took a turn that distanced itself a bit from the original. I'm gonna hang with it for now.
