In the Realm of the Senses is amazing on BR. The 400 Blows has a really nice transfer as well.

I know, but I can't see myself watching those more than once every few years tops, and money is way too tight right now. I still need to get Big Trouble in Little China, which I might pick up on this sale. They are on the old netflix queue though.

Picked up Night of the Creeps and watched it today. Not a particularly good Blu-Ray but definitely a fun little 80's cult flick. Probably could have gotten by on the DVD but whatever.

I felt terrible saying basically the same thing on my review. They sent me both the DVD and the Blu-ray, and the Blu-ray is better, but not a lot. I think the original material just wasn't up to the task.

agh.

David Mamet's Homicide, High and Low, Rashomon, Ikiru, Le Cercle Rouge, Slacker, My Dinner with Andre, and that's just off the top of my head. I'm going to have to try to stick to Homicide and My Dinner with Andre. Maybe bring a buddy with who can drag me from the store.

EDIT: Hey Anderson do you know how long the sale lasts? Specifically would it go until Gomorrah comes out on the 24th?

Be warned that the wallets the discs are packaged in are a bit crap. I'd move them all into slimlines, but I don't think there's enough room in the little box for them for the seasons that have 5 discs.

Damn this thread and all of you in it! Because of your helpful information, I was directed to Best Buy's online blu-ray sale and ended up buying Star Trek, Wrath of Khan, and The Bourne Trilogy! I already have the Bourne Trilogy on DVD aaaaaand HDDVD! Gah! The irrationality of it kills me. Let's not forget the fact that I also ordered The Third Man today.

When I stopped buying DVDs every week, I prided myself on not doing the same with blu-rays. Here's to falling off the wagon again!

Anyone wanna buy some Bourne HDVDs? Hahahaha.

Oh screw you. I just got all three of those off Goozex last week. Would much rather have bought those off a Chewer.

Criterion decided to thank me for my years of loyal patronage by arranging for the best birthday present ever for me:

Out January 26th!

Yeah, it's too bad really. I hear that the new transfer for the Monster Squad Blu-Ray coming out in November is suppose to be a big step up from last years DVD so at least we have that to look forward to.

Well, it was first advertised as a 5-disc set, now it appears to be only 4 discs.

1. The Ultimate Cut.
2. The Phenomenon: The Comic that Changed Comics.
3. Digital Copy of the Theatrical Cut.
4. The Complete Motion Comics.

Hopefully I can rent the Ultimate Cut, just to see it*, and to hear the commentary. I'm not dropping 40+ bucks on one disc of footage I already own spliced together, one disc of making-of stuff I've probably already seen, and two discs I absolutely do not want.

*At 3hrs and 25 min, I doubt I would watch it more than once anyway.

The idea of this feels like a movie that is desperately trying to be the book. That said, curiosity has me itching to see it just so that I can see if Snyder can pull it off.

Nice! Though the practice of using the Digital Copy disc to call the set a 2-disc set really annoys me. There are some features, but nothing that sparks my interest TOO much. But the film is so damned fantastic on its own that I don't care.

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=3571

I wonder if the Amazon cover is an exclusive. I checked Buy.com and the image for the cover is:

Either that, one image will be for the cardboard sleeve while the other is the actual case.

Also, I just ordered UP and Monsters Inc. through Amazon. Ugh... the money! Good deal though!

Once again, they're really pushing it with the labeling of these sets as 4-disc sets when the 2 discs are simply a digital copy and a DVD of the movie. Blarg!

Don't fall for it! Remember the fact that each of the Potter movies will be getting new editions with less kiddie special features. If those matter to you.

The Disney digital copies are bullshit too, unless they've changed their practices. The digital copy for Wall-E(from the Wall-E 3 disc DVD) actually has an expiration date for the file! To quote Chow Yun Fat in Hard Boiled... "Bullshit!"

So yay, free coaster!

Went ahead and Pre-Ordered G.I. Joe and Terminator: Salvation from Amazon. Wasn't going the get these movies but the prices were too tempting and I'm sure they will look and sound great.

Warner Brothers loves to skimp on the High-Def audio when they can. That's what made it more surprising to see that Orphan got a TrueHD 5.1 track.

Geez, within the next 5-6 weeks we have:

GI Joe
Harry Potter 6
Inglourious Basterds
Up
The Hangover
Monsters, Inc. on BR

And just after Christmas...District 9. Holy crap, I hope I get some $$ from Santa.

Yeah but don't all the new ones get it? And by new I don't mean a catalogue release I mean first time on disc since theatres.

Speed Racer and Gran Torino only got DD 5.1 tracks. 17 Again is another one. Someone had a list of the WB snubs. I'll have to go dig it up.

Really? I just read 2 reviews that said Torino got a DolbyTrueHD 5.1 mix.

I could've swore it was DD5.1 only. Speed and 17 are, but I'd have to check on the others.

Speed Racer also did shit at the box office, no real incentive for WB to put more money on it.

Just finished watching Charlie Brown Christmas and Grinch (Chuck Jones version) on Blu-Ray.

The restoration is amazing. Especially, when you consider the rather cheap animation used on the Peanuts special.

Yeah The Last Samurai really pissed me off. I saw it somewhere pretty cheap and almost scooped it up. Then I read the back of the box where it on had DD 5.1 so I didn't. The standar DVD I got now looks good enough until they can fix the audio. Im simply not going to lay money down if the picture and AUDIO aren't high def, I spent too much money on this fucking sound system.

Ohh and another frustrating one, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Has a super expensive blu-ray but comes with an MPEG-2 transfer and standard DD 5.1 I love that movie dearly but they are going to have to at least give me some DobyTrueHD for me to upgrade from my standard DVD.

Still all but 2 of those titles are catalogue releases. I still think most will get the high def audio treatment.

Most will. I'm just remembering this weird stretch where WB didn't like doing anything but DD 5.1 tracks.

I really, really, really wish I had that list.

I plan on picking it up, though I haven't yet. The reviews I've read say that it looks amazing, though.

Watchmen: UC has been delayed a week I guess.

Saw Near Dark at Walmart for $10. GI JOE was $19.96.

I wanted to wait and read some reviews before picking up JOE. The reviews seem positive, so I'll pick it up tomorrow.

Reviews of the movie? Or the quality of its presentation on disc?

Picture quality.

From Blu-ray.com:

"Featuring breathtaking video and audio presentations but lacking a more extensive supplemental section, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra comes recommended to fans, Blu-ray completists, and home theater aficionados looking for another reference-quality technical presentation."

Rented Gi Joe and man was it pretty. Probably won't buy it just because I'm sure I'll hate it a lot more. If it was $10 like I got transformers 2 for then I might reconsider. Heat releases next week!

Criterion BR sale also starts next week. Now, if they'll just take my Gomorrah Blu-Ray preorder.
