Default Last Days of Disco: Criterion Edition

http://www.amazon.com/Last-Days-Disc...3302407&sr=1-1

This is maybe one of my all-time favorite films that's been out of print for years, so much so that I whined about it in the "not on DVD" thread. Watching this in probably '99/'00 was one of those films, along with Boogie Nights, L.A. Confidential, and Rushmore, that made me take movies seriously. I'm a big Whit Stillman fan and he's been a major influence on me as a writer. I was hoping for a decent release someday, but a Criterion's so much better. The DVD even has Stillman reading from the "novelization" that he wrote as a companion piece a couple of years after the movie*. I wish that they'd included a reprint of that with the package, too, but hey, I'll take what I can get.

Usually when stuff like this comes out, I'm like "fucking finally." There is not a big enough font size to describe my feelings of "fucking finally" right now.

*The box art is drawn from the cover of the book, done by the same guy who did the Metropolitan cover.

"New, restored high-definition digital transfer, supervised and approved by director Whit Stillman"

Yet only available on DVD. Nice one, Criterion.

I'll echo the "fucking finally!" sentiments - I've been waiting for this to come back into print for a long, long time. And it's even getting a shiny Criterion edition to boot.

I'm slightly bummed that we won't be getting a Blu Ray version, but hey... I'll take what I can get, in this particular case.

That's why I'm negative about this. It could be their plan to get you to buy what you can get, just to release it a few months down the line on Blu-Ray so you'll buy it again.

This came out this week. Stillman's been doing a lot of interviews about it (including one where he says a criterion Barcelona is close to happening, too). I'm a fan of this one from Gothamist, if only because Emily Blunt plus Stillman gives me a nerd boner.

I need to get this, but this is a film that deserves to be seen by as many people as possible. Netflix it or get it from your library. But watch it.

I remember avoiding this when I came out as the trailer made it seem racey and my mom would not take me as I was still small. If its worth while I will netflix it though

For what I've paid for better movies from Criterion, I just can't rationalize paying 35 bucks for this one. When I saw the price on Amazon I thought "I'm sure that's going to drop. I'll just put it in my cart and wait on it." and it never did. So, I'll wait for a sale.
