Just thought I'd get an early start on this, on the odd chance that any CHUD posters will be in the SF area the weekend of October 3-5.
Hardly Strictly Bluegrass is an annual 3-day free music festival held in San Francsico's Golden Gate Park, with multiple acts on multiple stages. As you may guess from the name, it's greatly expanded from its roots as a bluegrass event. This year's lineup is still being set (and the actual schedule hasn't yet been published), but the artists confirmed so far include Neko Case, Earl Scruggs, The Chieftains, John Prine, Little Feat, Richie Havens, Booker T (with Drive-By Truckers), Doc Watson, Aimee Mann, Lyle Lovett and His Large Band, Billy Bragg, Gillian Welch, Old 97's, Allen Toussaint, Mavis Staples, Marianne Faithfull, and Steve Martin with his bluegrass band, with more names to be added. Also, both Robyn Hitchcock and The Flatlanders' respective websites indicate that they will be there, too. No Richard Thompson this year (he's on the East Coast that weekend), and I don't expect a repeat of last year's Elvis Costello/T-Bone Burnett/Emmylou Harris, but still... it's always an amazing lineup for free.

Gillain Welch and her partner/guitarist David Rawlings put on one of the best live shows I've ever seen.

Still waiting on the schedule, but recent additions to the lineup include Nick Lowe, Marshall Crenshaw (whose new album is terrific), Rosie Flores with Jon Langford, The Knitters, Steve Earle, Malo, and "Todd Rundgren performing A Wizard, A True Star"

So envious of that line-up. I wonder if I can talk my wife in to going to SanFran for that weekend.

I'm so there. Neko Case was enough to get my attention, but the whole line-up sounds great.
