There really are two camps of people when it comes to Norm McDonald's bit on this roast. Personally I thought it was really funny although nothing did beat Cloris Leachman.

This one wasn't as bad as the Pam Anderson roast but as you pointed out most of it wasn't even awful or anything it was just boring.

Norm's bit was the funniest 5 minutes of television in 2008.

This. So much this.

Seems a little harsh,

but apparently they want to murder you in a well.

Says so on this card.
There are no "two camps" about this.

Apparently Starving Dog is not interested in seeing Henry Fonda pick blueberries.

"Apparently your hairy chest isn't your only resemblance to Rintintin"

lack of audience response

"I mean his dogface! C'mon, how do you not get that?"

Norm MacDonald's set was some of the most clever comedy I've seen in a long time. Not gutbusting, but very smart. Too smart, probably, for his own good. Cerebral even, which is not necessarily the best adjective in comedy. Cloris Leachman was a fucking pro. She might not be a writer, but her timing is amazing. I'll give props to Lovitz too. His set was relentlessly one-note on purpose. Again kinda cerebral, but it mostly worked. Whereas Sarah Silverman was really not funny, which made me sad because I wanted her to slay.

Not familiar with Jim Norton? Wow. He's a good, hard-working stand up who pops up all over the place, he even had a brief character bit in the 1st Spider-Man.

I am going to watch the Norm Macdonald bit again. I really wanted to like it and didn't, so maybe a second watch will do it. Maybe it was what he was surrounded by rubbing me the wrong way.

I hated Jon Lovitz's bit though and I don't think watching it again will help.

Lovitz and Macdonald both have the advantage in the fact that because of simply their intonation and timing anything they say makes me laugh. Lovitz's set was alright, but Macdonald's had me literally rolling -literally- with laughter. I laughed the hardest through his set. I'm glad to see his set get some love here.

Lovitz has horrible. But Norm was fantastic. Him, Ross, Giraldo and Gitfried owned the night. And Leachman, of course.

I think Jimmy Kimmel said it best about Giraldo at the Flava Flav roast when he said (I'm paraphrasing) "Greg Giraldo...once again, you killed, and once again, it will lead nowhere." The man is the master of the roast but can't catch a break.

Macdonald was genius, glad to see most everyone else agrees with me. It's like the guy was experimenting to see how far he could get with his delivery alone.

"This was sad, but I think his entire shtick was to tell bad jokes."

You had me up until that. Like alot of people I thought he was great, and I don't really understand how you could be unsure of what he was doing. I thought it was pretty obvious.

This line gets better and better with time. He just so completely turns Norton's insult around.

Norm was tops, but this line from Giraldo was choice:

"The Olsens are like Tom Green's testicles-- they look the same, but one is fake and empty inside, and the other one's been licked by Heath Ledger. It's-- he'd be cool with it, fuckers."

Norm immediately followed Cloris Leachman. I think that was my problem. Watching it on its own, I caught his timing and what he was doing. I laughed and do think it was funny - not the funniest thing I have seen, mind you - but funny.
