I am rather amazed that you are implying that Raimi is firmly attached to this project up until now. That was what I would considered merely a rumor.

Interesting choice there but nobody will top the perfect Jack Ryan....Alec Fucking Baldwin.

I know it has been a while, but has Affleck made any statements about interest in continuing the series? Unless it's a money thing, I don't know why the studio wouldn't stick with him.

Affleck was the bomb in Sum of All Fears, yo. Franco wouldn't be a bad replacement (and better than Gosling when he was rumored).
Dude isn't a star though, at least not yet. |

It's hardly the worst casting ever, but I guess it depends which era of Ryan they decide to go for.
Isn't it supposed to be Without Remorse? |

I don't know your definition of rumor, but it's not a rumor. They just haven't made anything official yet.

I liked Ben Affleck also and say bring him back! Hell, Bring back Ford also, make him Ryan's Dad and you can cast Baldwin as his drunken uncle who teaches him about sex and how it's a lot like chinese food, it ain't over until you both get your cookies.

That's John Clark. Singleton and Juaqin Pheonix were attached to that but i think it's been dead for awhile.

Although he's a bit soft spoken, Terrance Howard would be a good choice (if only to see how many people would actually get upset at a black man being Jack Ryan).

The studios have no imagination. They'll always have to be dragged kicking and screaming into unproven territory.
Raimi had to fight for Toby Maguire and I guess he will have to fight for Franco. Seriously, how much money do Raimi's movies have to make before they trust him to cast the lead in a movie he is directing? Franco is a fantastic, inventive actor and would ad a lot of life to a big budget movie like this in my opinion.

I'm all for sticking with Affleck as well. I've never had a problem with his performance.
Also, after Pineapple Express I want to see Franco loosen up a little bit more and do a few more of those kind of parts. Jack Ryan seems like he's headed back in the Harry Osborn direction.

Before reading the article (and going just off the title), I was thinking of Seth Rogen as Ryan.

That's usually the question I ask the most. Hollywood is so fucking paranoid.

I'm surprised they would do anything other than Ben coming back. That movie was good and made money. I think the media is off Ben's back enough that he could headline another in the summer and make more money.

I prefer they go in the different direction and embrace the continuity. Bring back Ford and do the older Ryan books, which I haven't read, where Ryan becomes President. Because what's wrong with more Ford as President?

After HOLLYWOODLAND and GONE BABY GONE, Affleck's starting to regain a bit of his previous lustre. If STATE OF PLAY, uh, plays, I don't see why Paramount wouldn't take him back as Ryan. I thought he was just fine in the role.
Franco needs to take advantage of his PINEAPPLE EXPRESS goodwill and try a few more off-centre projects before he goes all mainstream again. I like the guy but he was a blank in something like ANNAPOLIS (although anyone would have difficulty making that neutered OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN ripoff worthwhile).

I'm with the bring back Affleck crew. Ford is too old. Baldwin is my favorite tho.

In a recent interview - I think it was with Moviehole - Fordsaid he would be interested in playing Ryan again. I think he said he had talked about it with Noyce.
I'd be up for that, if it was like Clear & Present danger.
