That sound you hear is the entire nation applauding this decision by theaters.

I actually don't believe this story. I have a hard time believing this film was supposed to be in 1500 theaters, that there were ever plans to strike that many prints.

Or for that matter, afford that many prints.

Didn't Uwe Boll get screwed on prints for BloodRayne as well and have a similar type issue? Some legal crap involving Billy Zane?

Edit:

Quote:
The Hollywood Reporter

Director Uwe Boll has sued actor Billy Zane in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming he's owed at least $700,000 in revenues from the 2006 boxoffice flop "Bloodrayne."

Boll claims in the April 30 filing that Zane was the one who suggested Romar Entertainment handle distribution of the film. Zane and Romar principal James Schramm allegedly promised the film would open in 2,000 theaters and that a $10 million advance from Boll would be used for advertising and promotion. But at least $900,000 was paid out to Zane and Schramm and the movie opened in only 950 theaters, Boll claims.

The film's budget was $25 million and brought in just under $4 million at the worldwide boxoffice.

Even funnier, they apparently sent prints to theaters that hadn't requested them, which were sent back.

By the end of the weekend, it seemed that Romar Entertainment's "BloodRayne" managed to muster $1.5 million from 985 theaters, according to industry estimates, averaging a weak $1,523 per theater. The R-rated horror film, starring Ben Kingsley and directed by Uwe Boll, was originally scheduled to play in 2,500 theaters, a number that dropped to 1,600 before settling at 985 by Sunday.

Industry sources said they understood that some prints were shipped to exhibitors that had not licensed the film and were shipped back.

Uwe Boll isn't much of a filmmaker but as a crazy Internet blogger, he's quite entertaining.

In this link, he tries to name important films from the past 50 years as some of his favorites while throwing out vague reasons that leave me wondering if he's even seen any of them.

I wish he would use his amazing powers to raise financing for good. Such as becoming a producer and getting talented directors projects off the ground. He'd probably make his backers more money.

I don't think Boll would work as a producer either because he really seems to lack simple logic. He wants to make a "controversial" film that makes fun of America, 9/11, and religion and then cry when none of the theaters want to touch it. Certain filmmakers could pull off making a film like this but when you have a reputation as a hack who makes bad video game movies, you need to step your game up in the filmmaking department before attempting to tackle something like this.

The comments on the Postal website are particularly amusing since he seems to envision himself as some kind of "cinematic crusader" battling against the big-budget major studio projects. He might have something if he actually knew how to make a fucking movie. I also can't help but chuckle at the irony of him still whining about folks who bash his work on the Internet when he does the same to every filmmaker who isn't him.

This is what I've been thinking for years. I just want to sit that man down and tell him that, look Uwe, you're good at getting money for films, what you lack is actual talent.

Having seen this, I can vouch for the fact that having Postal avoiding a wide release is like having one of the planes avoiding the World Trade Center. It's not a disaster, but the fact that it was made is tragedy enough.

And 9/11 did not have a Kids in the Halls penis in it.

After watching that You Tube video about a month ago, I have drawn my conclusion that Boll is more than just a horrible director, he's an insane horrible movie director.

Here's a good LA Times article on Dr. Boll:

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...tory?track=rss

Quote:
UWE BOLL is a German-accented party crasher at the gates of legit Hollywood product. His movies are reviled on the Internet by video-gamers and genre movie mavens -- people incensed that Boll is tarnishing the movie-making art with titles such as "BloodRayne," "House of the Dead," "Alone in the Dark" and "In the Name of the King," movies whose ancillary purpose, Boll will tell you, is to offer a tax benefit to his high-end German investors
Quote:
"Everyone invests to make profit, but they cannot lose more than 50% of their money," said Boll of his investors
