View Full Version : McDonald's Monopoly

I never eat at McDonald's if I can help it. But the monopoly game has pulled me in a few times over the last decade. This is one of those times.
I have no idea how they really handle it, but I've always been of the mind that they distributed the pieces in a way that reduces the chances of winning. (Obviously, that's not true, but let's look over that for now.)
So I'm playing this time, and I have a proposition for you. I'll pay $10 for a Mediteranian Ave, $100 for Vermont Ave, $250 for Virginia Ave, $350 for Tennessee Ave, $1000 for Ventnor Ave, and $10,000 for Pennslyvania Ave.
Any takers? Anyone else as obsessed by this as I am?

I've tended to notice as years go by, that for the three property sets, two properties will be common and one will be ultra-difficult to find. At some point you just commonly get duplicates. Never won anything major, did score a couple of free food items. Plus the Best Buy Bucks are nice 'cept for restriction stating you can only use $3 for each item.

hell, I'll take you up on that. I go very rarely so I don't really play the game but if any of those pop up I'll let you know. I assume those are the really rare pieces or something?

This list above is a list of pieces I need. I can't say whether they're officially rare, but I have a shortage of them.
I'm serious about buying them, by the way. I'm looking at it like an investment.

The other day I was lunching with a friend and together we ended up with two separate railroads and Park Place.
I was destined to win this.

So, I know one of the regional managers for Las Vegas. Well a couple years back they had the Monopoly fiasco when employees were caught stealing the peices. So McDonalds gave out like 11 million to random customers to make good on there Monopoly Game, something like that.
The regional manager goes to one of the Mc. Donalds locations at the Mall, picks a person at random in line and ask them if they would mind taking a survey. The person said yes they would mind, so she asks the person behind them if they would like to take the survey. Said Person agrees and they take her in the back and let them know they just won 1million dollars.
Whats great is all the employees knew what was going down and they started talking about it at the counter and the person who didnt take the survey ended up finding out how much they had fucked up. They told the manager they could see their eyes watering up when they explained what had happened.
That is all~
Couple years back, my cousin used to work at McDonald's
For a summer, he would bring back basketfulls of the tickets back home and we would try to sort through it. And we always managed to not win by one or two pieces.
He's done it for three years. He hasn't won anything expensive.
This is just like the lottery, except along with the amount of money you wasted on it your cholesterol levels reach catastrophic limits.

I'm not a Monopoly employee, and I want to be clear there that I'm not soliciting any McDonald's employees.
Ebay should be teeming with these things.
edit: I also don't work for McDonalds. I mean to type it that way the first time.

As I understand it, the "collection" aspect is a scam. There is one rare piece per color, and that piece clearly states "winner XXX prize". For example, you get the winning orange piece, and it says "winner of an R.V." You don't have to go collect the other two orange pieces to win.
I used to go out of my way to get monopoly pieces as a kid and teenager. When I found out about the scandal, I saw red for about a minute and a half.

Some of the pieces I have are the most expensive ones in the Monopoly set, and they don't say that.

The rare pieces:
- BOARDWALK
- MEDITERRANIAN AVE
- VERMONT AVE
- VIRGINIA AVE
- TENNESSEE AVE
- KENTUCKY AVE
- VENTNOR AVE
- PENNSYLVANIA AVE
- SHORTLINE RAILROAD
And Sammy, good luck finding someone willing to sell a rare piece when they could just drop $10 on hash browns and win the entire pot themselves.

If you live your life by the axiom "No one will give you shit" then this really becomes kinda trivial.

Well I think you guys might have ruined it for me.
How did you determine which ones are the rare ones this time? Did you just copy my list?

It's pretty simple. I mean, if you have Park Place, do you really think you're halfway to becoming a millionaire? Start talking to all your friends, and find out how many other people have Park Place. Find out how many people "just need Boardwalk" and you will see how the game works. The pieces are NOT evenly distributed, and anyone would have to be a moron to take you up on your offer.
But, you know, good luck with it and everything.

You mean it will take more than a post on the internet to make me rich? You guys are ruining my day.
I worked at a fast food restaurant once that ran a contest like this. My coworkers and I went through a package of cups every night looking for intant winners. All we ever found was food, which we usually took anyway. It wasn't McDonald's though.

Hashbrowns really are the best way to go when partaking in this futile endeavor. Low cost per piece and it's even kind of fun to pull the piece off since the monopoly attachement weighs more than the little light hashbrown bag. I also like to tone down my monopoly delusions, instead of being psyched about park place I'd just expect to win a jeep cherokee or a fucking sea doo, then when after eating enough hasbrowns to put my cholesterol count at 400, the free ice cream cone isn't too disappointing.

The rare Phantom Menace Taco Bell pog.
"Behold! The Ultimate Pog!"
You know whoever owns this fine collectible says that everytime they show it off. Probably with a bad Comic Book Guy voice, too.

The rare pieces are the same every single year. Probably to discourage people from trying to mix-and-match with game pieces from previous years.

I remember when they were giving the option of a million in gold, diamonds, or cash. That was a fun twist, even if you had to be an idiot to take anything but the cash.

In the past week, I've gotten Reading, B&O, and Pennsylvania RRs. All I need is Shortline now (This will never happen).
Also, if anyone finds this "rare" piece, I'm sure we can figure out a fair way to split the pot. Get crackin'!

I had a friend who swears to this day that she threw out a 4 pog back when Taco Bell was doing their N64 promotion.

I could have swore that chicken head story was from KFC.
And maybe was. Who knows how many heads these places have fried.
On topic, a lot of my coworkers are playing the Monopoly game. I remember playing it years ago, but when I realized nobody won, I dropped it. It's exactly like the lottery, if not worse, because not only do you throw away your money everytime you pay, but your health as well.

I'm just waiting for someone to find a way to exploit the Best Buy thing like last year. Weren't people getting triple the value of their BB Bucks somehow?
And now that's all I really play for anyway, this is the only time of year I'll drop money down for McDonalds, those bastards. The BB bucks do sorta help when you want to drop money on something you're not completely sure about like a game or a movie.

I think it was the guys at Cheap Ass Gamer who figured you could game the system by writing down the coupon code, going into a B&M Best Buy store to redeem the physical coupons, then going home right after and using the coupon codes online.

It's all I really play for as well. It'll lop a tiny bit off of the already dirt cheap price on the Ultimate Superman Collection when that comes out.
