Wow! This book got really insane. I was thinking it was going to be suspense, based on all the press around it- but it delves right into some straight-up horror. Like the best horror novels you spend a lot of time with the characters, getting to know them well before they get thrust into this nightmare situation.
Very cool shit.... I'm loving this so far.

It is a terrific read, Smith does a survival horror nightmare... I though it was reminisce of a full length version of King's "The Raft", which I haven't read in fifteen years but unsettled me when I was a lad...
Smith is currently working on adapting The Ruins for Red Hour Films and Dreamworks.

I agree.... The Raft gives off that same feeling of being trapped and not knowing what the fuck is going on. I'm glad that Smith is working on the screenplay- he did a damn good job with A Simple Plan.
I just put up a review over here (http://www.creature-corner.com/?type=reviews&id=1566). It's hard to talk about this book without giving anything away, though.
