In my all-time favourites list, the constants will always be Heat, Toy Story 2, Raising Arizona, When Harry Met Sally..., Singin' in the Rain and Ghostbusters.
Of the films i've seen in the last couple of years, the ones jostling for room are:
Shaun of the Dead and 28 Days Later... - my two favourite British films of all time, and excellent genre entries. Of the two, Shaun has the re-watchability factor, but 28 Days Later... had more of an instant impact on me.
The Incredibles - about as good a superhero movie as you could ever desire. Awesome visual design and score, wonderful characters and amazing set-pieces. The last third is the most exciting action directing i've seen in the last 12 months. A classic.
Master and Commander: Far Side of the World - this film was so badly advertised. Mind you, its not an easy film to sell. I think for what this film is, its pretty much perfect. Its authentic, exciting, dramatic, moving, funny and visually exhilirating. I adore this movie and wish more people gave it the time it deserves.
Open Range - maybe not ever gonna be on my favourites list, but its a film i've watched probably 6 or 7 times in the last 18 months and I can't get enough of it. I love the dialogue and the cadence and authenticity of the language. The cinematography is gorgeous and when the action lets loose, its noisy, dirty and painful. Another great genre film and a solid, respectable addition to the Western canon.
24 Hour Party People - A film about Manchester and how great this place is. How could I not love it? Hilarious, touching and unique, it has a vibrancy (and a soundtrack) that few films can match. A bizarre and brilliant film about a bizarre and brilliant time and place.
Honourable mention: Lawn Dogs - not a film that i've only seen recently, but one that I constantly peddle to those who haven't seen it. This film is beautiful, a sometimes sweet, sometimes dark modern fairy tale which has the balls to take a turn in the final act into unchartered territory, and pulls it off with flying colours. I've probably seen it 15 times now and I love it a bit more each time. Fantastic score too. If the final five minutes don't send crippling tingles down your spine, then I just don't know...

There's always something else to watch.
I'm gonna make these my next on my watch-list. Thanks, sackley.
